I want to share some good news with you about the Indian Supreme Court case concerning the denial of affirmative action benefits to thousands of Christian Dalits ("Untouchables") in India. If a recent committee report is followed, the Dalits may find legal freedom at last.

On May 15, the National Commission for Religious & Linguistic Minorities presented its long-awaited report to the government. The report suggests that the law denying these benefits to Dalit Christians and Muslims should be changed.

If the government chooses to follow the Commission's recommendations, thousands of Dalit Christians will receive the same civil rights as their counterparts who choose to remain in the country's majority Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh faiths. Read more about this developing case here:

Yours for the unreached,

K.P. Yohannan
Founder & President

PS: Please pray for their justice and freedom.

This sounds like good news for the poor people. I pray that it will be implemented, in Jesus Name.

Thank you Lord for compassionate hearts....may it be so, and people blessed.

wow! that's great news! indian constitution offers special privileges to dalits.dalits who convert to christianity were not allowed to partake of these benefits. Christian Indian dalits are now not being denied these privileges is definitely a great news.

Indeed it is wonderful news, Praise be to God.

I will be praying for them….

Thank you brother chad for sharing this wonderfull testimony.

Caste system in Christianity?

I feel that people who have converted from any other background to Christianity should not feel obligated to belong to a caste system. After they have received the Lord Jesus as their personal saviour , they are a new creation and hence are one with others in the body of Christ. By having reservations and quotas for 'dalit christians' we are acknowledging the fact that there is a caste system even in the body of Christ. Dalits who convert to Christianity are no longer dalits. This whole system of reservation is being taken too far even by christians in India.
If anything they can fight against discrimination in the General Quota and not take shelter under a tag which they no longer belong to.

philosopher....you made me rethink what I said in my earlier post in this thread...

The caste system is slowly disapearing but they still face problems from radical hindu activists. The Gospel is spreading so fast in places like India and China.

philosopher... really great point. I am so glad you brought this point to our attention. This could be applied to highschool "caste systems" as well. The key is that, as new born Christians, we are all equal in the eyes of God as His children. Thank you God for reminding us that no voice, when it is speaking for You, is too small to be heared and heeded. Nor should anyone be treated differently, no matter what they're background.
