As far as the law is concerned (i.e. the Ten Commandments) there can be no way working on Sunday is a sin. The Law was fulfilled by Jesus, and we are free from needing to fulfill the law and make animal sacrifices to atone for our inability to keep the Law.
However, it seems to me that the real issue is found in the heart of the purpose of the sabbath.
It was intended to be a time of rest, reflection, and many other purposes. Today I would think that the sin lies in being so busy that you have no time for your relationship with God. also I would say that you are sinning against your body (physically speaking) by being a work-a-holic by denying it the rest and play time that it needs to function in the way that God has intneded it to.
We need rest physically and spiritually in order to grow with Christ. We cannot draw closer to Jesus when we're tired and clearly not giving Him the time of the day.
If working on Sunday is a sin, how do we justify preachers preaching on Sunday? The Pharisees themselves didn't follow that rule as strictly as some folks would have us follow it today: "He said unto them, 'If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?" " (Mt 12:11).
The ancient Hebrews lived in a society that was basically agrarian. Therefore, it was a simple matter for them all to observe the Sabbath on the same day each week. Our society is very service oriented, which requires many of our businesses and other organizations to be open on weekends, making it difficult if not impossible for many people to worship on Sunday.
Surely God took that into account when He wrote the 10 Commandments.
I do agree with SpiritLedEd! In the third world countries people have no other choice but to work more than 12 hours a day and all through the year just for making a simple living! In many countries children have to do the work of the adult. There is a small town near the city where I live, in which lot of children work in the Fire works industries and Match Factories. I do believe that God who is the Liberator one day might bring to an end this type of slavary
What exactly does keep the sabbath day holy mean? I mean are we not supposed to keep every day holy? Is it mainly reffering to work? And how did the sabbath come to be?:embarasse

the new justin, read Exodus chapters 16 & 31, and then read the book of Galations and Colossians. I think you will find your answers there. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Thank you all so much for your replies! I have been receiving video tapes from a friend who goes to a Christian Church. And her Minester, was preaching about the Sabbath. And he also said that he thought it to be a sad thing that no-one practise the Sabbath anymore. He said that GOD said that we are to practise the Sabbath day every seventh day from generation to generation. And he qouted these Scriptures; Exodus 16:32-33, Exodus 20:8, Exodus 31:13-18,
But, like Brother Richard I to thought that The Law was fulfilled by Jesus.
I also recall these Scriptures in John 5:15-17 When the Jews wanted to persecuted Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath day. And Jesus replied, saying; "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." Thank you all again for clearing that up for me.*genesis!
