I just finished reading a post on Hell, and am curious to know what percentage of Christians believe there is a place of torment we like to call Hell.

if someone dosent believe in hell then my question to them is....what exactly is Jesus Christ saving us from?

From the condemnation that those without Jesus are already in...

"...Let the dead bury the dead..."

Technically hell is a temporary place that will eventually get thrown into the Lake of Fire. However the lake of firer is a place of eternal torment. ( Rev 20:14; )

If I understand it correctly, Hell was created specifically for the Devil and the angels who joined in his rebellion. The Bible doesn't have much to say about it other than it being loosely compared to a dumping ground where garbage is placed to be burned up. It seems certain that the Devil, the False Prophet, and the fallen angels will suffer there for eternity. Regarding us, it gets a bit fuzzy. Either way, those who fail to make the grade will be greeted with perpetual misery. There is no hope, no silver lining, just the same unrelenting misery.

The Book of Revelations describes God taking back our soul in what is called the Second Death. Following that, those whose names are not found in the Book of Life are cast into the Lake of Fire whose fire never goes out. A seeming contradiction exists in that if we're truly dead, how can we still be alive to be tormented? Either way, we will be forgotten as if we had never existed while those whose name is found in the Book of Life will continue to exist although beit in a different form.

Don't use it as a scare tactic, but it is a reality we all must face at some point if we insist on being our own master. Thus we rebel in the same manner as the Devil.

It should never be the Fear of hell and eternal suffering that drives us to Christ ! It should be the love He has shown us that compels us to seek His will in our life and serve God .im Apalled at the number of ministers I've heard that preach hellfire and brimstone punishment as the Gospel ! Yes that's some of it but not the meat of it ! To humble ourselves before a God that loved us and gave us other than we deserved ,grace given when it was not due is what ministers to the lost soul ! ...Rev

As a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous, I'm appalled at the number of redeemable people who've been driven away from God's church by fire-and-brimstone preaching.

Shutterbug,
re: "The Book of Revelations describes God taking back our soul..."

Any particular reason for adding an "s" at the end of Revelation?
