"Salvation is of the Lord."—Jonah 2:9

Salvation is the work of God. It is He alone who quickens the soul "dead in trespasses and sins," and it is He also who maintains the soul in its spiritual life. He is both "Alpha and Omega." "Salvation is of the Lord."

If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful; if I have graces, they are God's gifts to me; if I hold on in a consistent life, it is because He upholds me with His hand. I do nothing whatever towards my own preservation, except what God Himself first does in me. Whatever I have, all my goodness is of the Lord alone. Wherein I sin, that is my own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely.

If I have repulsed a spiritual enemy, the Lord's strength nerved my arm. Do I live before men a consecrated life? It is not I, but Christ who liveth in me. Am I sanctified? I did not cleanse myself: God's Holy Spirit sanctifies me. Am I weaned from the world? I am weaned by God's chastisements sanctified to my good.

Do I grow in knowledge? The great Instructor teaches me. All my jewels were fashioned by heavenly art. I find in God all that I want; but I find in myself nothing but sin and misery. "He only is my rock and my salvation."

Do I feed on the Word? That Word would be no food for me unless the Lord made it food for my soul, and helped me to feed upon it. Do I live on the manna which comes down from heaven? What is that manna but Jesus Christ himself incarnate, whose body and whose blood I eat and drink?

Am I continually receiving fresh increase of strength? Where do I gather my might? My help cometh from heaven's hills: without Jesus I can do nothing. As a branch cannot bring forth fruit except it abide in the vine, no more can I, except I abide in Him.

Charles Spurgeon

Nothing is good that lies in my sinful nature, and I'm sorry for my sins. If anything "good" comes from me, it first came from God! Praise God for all his wonderful graces!

It is all about Him in me and me in Him.

I truly appreciate this encouraging post. It's all too easy to
'trust' ones own obedience and gauge a sense of security by
it.

The bible warned all--Beware if you think you are standing strong. Its a battle daily between the Flesh and spirit.

Dear Keith,
I believe you might have misconstrued what Member Lyndle was saying. He'd probably be in agreement with you if he were to reply. However, it has been a couple of years since they've been on TJ.

I am new here and am just looking around letting the Holy Spirit lead me and here I am, all because of the encouragement of our Lord and Savior. He leads us and He guides us. He is most wise and absolutely sufficient. Without Him we can, I know, indeed do nothing at all. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5) God bless you.

Why don't you use His name? Your translation doesn't.

Then you don't know Him.
Dear Questionlt,
Let me explain. This is but an extract that Charles Spurgeon did on Jonah 2:9, and what he used as part of this devotional is what you see. His sermon which is 8 pages long, also only quotes this small piece of Jonah 2:9.
Sadly, I do not know why Spurgeon used only this part of Jonah 2:9 which includes much more then "Salvation is of the Lord. ".

God's Name is REMOVED from the Translation.

Dear Questionlt,
If all you received from this devotional which was posted in 2016, and written in 1857, is that God's name was not included.
I would suggest you move on to something else that would be more beneficial to you.

NOTHING is more beneficial to knowing the True God that Jesus referred to!

Dear Qeustionlt,
As I said, if all you took from this devotional is that in the referenced verse the author failed/choose not to include the name of God, then it would be beneficial for you to move on.
