Salvation is by faith—pure and simple! Salvation is the result of believing: "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31 NIV). If you get an emotional high or some other physical manifestation—a "feeling" of any kind—that is a bonus and beside the point. You are saved by faith in God's Word, because He promised you salvation if you would meet His simple, single condition: believe. You're not saved by your feelings.

It doesn't matter how you feel, because God's Word is unchanging and is not affected by that. It's your faith that counts. If you believe the Word, regardless of how you feel, you're saved! Eventually you probably will have some feeling, but it is not the "experience" or the feeling that saves you; that is a result of your being saved.

God's plan from the beginning is based on free choice—your choice. God gave us free will to either choose to receive Jesus or to reject Him. Salvation is there for you. It's yours, ready for the taking, but you must make the decision.

Believe and you’re saved. Period!

Salvation is there, and it is a free gift. All you have to do is reach out your hand of faith and receive it. Salvation is a miracle of God, but it's yours for the asking. All you have to do is receive Jesus into your heart. He's there, waiting to come in.

Believe and you're saved. Period! Plus nothing! The Word plus faith plus nothing! That's it! If you believe the Word and receive Him, it's done! Of course, if you are thankful for Jesus' love and the gift of salvation, your life will show it (James 2:17-18). But the instant you believe, it's done, before you even have a chance to thank Him or show Him how much you love Him in return.

Salvation is not a reward. It's not payment for anything good you may have done or anything bad you may have not done. It is a gift that you don't earn and can't earn by any kind of works of your own. "By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

All you have to do is receive it. That's what He means by "not of yourselves." The one thing you have to do, anybody can do, even a little child: Receive it. You don't have to work up some emotional experience. You don't have to pray it down or work it up. You just have to receive Him, that's all. Plus nothing!

Done Deal

You don't need to worry about whether or not you are going to lose your salvation or how you are going to manage to stay saved, because eternal salvation by grace means once saved, always saved. Once you've received Jesus Christ as your Savior, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it—you are a saved child of God! "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life" (John 3:36). That one verse should be enough to end all your worries. You have eternal life right now, and you can't lose it.

Besides, you can't keep yourself saved any more than you could save yourself in the first place. Even though you're not perfect and you're bound to make mistakes, God is going to save you anyway. Salvation is forever. He's already given it to you, and He's not going to take it back. It's yours!

I agree with you 100% that there is nothing you can do to save yourself. But you missed the most important aspect of salvation. The dreaded "R" word that no one ever seems to want to say. Repentance. Without repentance one can not be saved. God needs us to be sorry for our sins. If you haven't repented, you can't be saved. This is a plain and simple truth.

As far as once saved always saved goes, I don't really disagree with you. But what if someone says...."OK I believe" and continues to live in sin. By reading what you have written, they would believe themselves saved. But the Bible is very clear there will be many on that day that will say "Lord, Lord!" And he will say "Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness." When someone repents of their sins, they hate their sin. They want rightousness, and their lifestyle will reflect it. Your works will confirm your salvation. Your works won't get you saved, they will simply show you that you are. Read the book of 1John, it's all there.

If you are a Child of God, you will walk like Jesus walked, and if you don't, if your life is marred by a lifestyle of sin, you haven't lost your salvation, it has just proved you were never saved in the first place

This article was originally written with the thought that you have repentance in your heart and this is what to do next. If you don't have repentance then you will follow the path of destruction, on that I agree with you.

Thank you for taking time to read the article and participate in a debate about it. That is how we all learn from one another.

God's Blessings

I agree 100% too. Once you are in the arms of the Lord, You are saved. Jesus asked from us, to love His Father with all of our power and might and to love our neighbour more than ourselves. Our Father TOLD us to believe in His Son, through both the Old and New Testament. I stand on faith. I have a statement of faith in Jesus that I lay before the Lord when I am weak. This is all You need. And yes, it is completely free, free from sin, free from destruction, free from a downward spiral and free to return to the Lord in Heaven, when we have passed away here on earth.
Loving God is free and God has given us "free will", to do so. We have a Great and Gracious Lord and He is willing to call us His own. I am all for this free gift of our Creator's Love and I do see so many here at Talk Jesus that are receiving this gift too.
Nice topic zulu. Nice praising in the "lounge", too!!!!!
God bless you. Oh by the way, that repentance bit. Boy oh boy, did God ever put me through repentance. But that's okay....He is still my Best Friend...forever and ever. Amen:Pixie:love: :sun: :rainbow:

This is what Jesus said:

Mark12.

The Greatest Commandment

28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'[f] 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[g]There is no commandment greater than these."

32"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

Re: Its free

:lightbulb I notice that you write of "the hand of faith" grasping salvation. Interesting metaphor. The hand is a tool for grasping things. It is operated by muscles responding to signals received from the brain. If these muscles stopped receiving signals from the brain, they would cease functioning and atrophy. They require regular and frequent input from the brain to retain their effectiveness.

Salvation is indeed a gift that is grasped by the hand of faith. But, the hand of faith is muscle-controlled, as is the human hand. That "muscle" is called "determination". Regular and frequent input from the brain to this muscle is required lest the grip weaken and the hand let go of the treasure.

I'm not talking about not having enough faith. I'm talking about maintaining the "muscle strength" of the faith we have been given, the mountain moving faith that The Word speaks of (Mk 11:22-23 and elsewhere).

The security of our salvation depends on maintaining the muscle strength in our faith. And that strength depends on day-to-day spiritual growth;the strengthening of our resolve; the deepening of our relationship with the Lord.

I was describing this exact factor to someone like this. If you are swimming and you started to drown, and someone casts you a rescue rope, you will be safed. If that rope fall short of you, you have to swim to get to it. If you give up trying to get to the rope you will surely drown. The same with salvation, you have to feed your soul permanently with God's food to get the faith you need. If you don't you will backslide and the road back will be harder than the first one you travelled.

Great article brother Zulu. Thank you for sharing this. I agree with both SLE's and Zulu's metaphors, or explanations thereof of maintaining faith and not to lose salvation. We all know we cannot just accept Christ and move on. We need spiritual growth [maturity], spiritual food [Word of GOD], continual repentenance [forgivness of our sins] and worship [prayer, communicating with our Savior].
