2Tim 3:8; Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.
2Tim 3:9; But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also.

These two name are not in the Old Testament. .. and yet it says here, they were men who opposed Moses. So then who were these men?

Exod 7:22; But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

Tradition.. ( yes "tradition" not the Bible ) says these two magicians were Jannes and Jambres. But whoever they were, their names are in the New testament.
How far do we go with assumption? Can we assume these magicians were Jannes and Jambres. Or should we "assume" they were not.
Whether they were the magicians spoken of in Exodus 7 or not could be debated. However whether Moses contended with them or not, cannot be.

My source says these names linking them Exod. 7 are found in the Targum of Jonathon.

But that's all I can find.

Yeah I think they stirred up the mutiny in the wilderness and were of those swallowed up by the earth

The Apostle Paul had access of all of the Rabbinic writings that the Temple had, when Saul was a pharisee. He also had the oral traditions available to him. All of this was destroyed in AD 70. So, Paul was able to recall the names of the magicians who opposed Moses, but we don't have the Rabbinic writings that were burned up.
