I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith. Philippians 3:7-9 NLT
Jesus offers you an opportunity to make a fresh assessment of what you have and what you value. In fact, part of the freedom Jesus offers is freedom from the need to acquire and maintain the uncertain, perishing assets of this world. When you can leave behind everything else in this world to pursue a heart union with Christ, you will enjoy a peace and freedom nothing else can touch.
This likely won’t be an overnight process. If you have a strong attachment to something or a particular way of thinking, you may need some time to see the goodness of Christ and the inadequacy of everything else. Over time, you will get to see the faithfulness of Jesus, and you will begin to remember how He has stood by your side faithfully.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to pursue union with You so that I can leave behind everything that pales in comparison.
