Jesus the Truth and the Life

At the end of John chapter 18, Jesus is brought before the Roman Governor Pilate. The Jewish leaders are demanding his death for claiming to be the Son of God, but Pilate wants nothing to do with their religious arguments. Why would a Roman governor concern himself with Jewish religious issues? He finds no cause to condemn Jesus. Ah, but the Pharisees have an ace up their sleeve - Jesus is claiming to be a king which puts him in direct opposition to Caesar! This new development places Pilate in quite a pickle. So he asks Jesus, "Are you a king?" Jesus' reply is worth a second look. He tells Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world, but is a kingdom of Truth." These words are most likely the very last words Jesus ever spoke in defense of himself. "My kingdom is a kingdom of Truth." In John 8, Jesus taught that his true followers would obey his teachings. They would know the Truth and the Truth would set them free. Jesus also taught that He IS the Truth. David wrote that God's Word is Truth. The Holy Spirit was sent to guide us in all Truth, and it is Jesus that he reveals. So you see, Jesus is the Truth of God, The Word made flesh, The King of the Kingdom of Truth. Those who enter his kingdom by faith in the Son of God are freed from the dominion of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of light and Truth. Don't be like Pilate who was blinded to the Truth. With the Son of God standing before him, he was blind enough to ask, "And what is Truth?" He was staring Truth in the face. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And he's standing before you today. Don't miss him. God be with you all...
