The righteous considers the cause of the poor, [But] the wicked does not understand [such] knowledge. Proverbs 29:7 NKJV

Waitstaff at dine-in restaurants depend on tips to supplement their income. Salespeople often make a commission on the goods and services they sell. There is often a link between the level of customer service offered and the degree to which the person offering it is compensated. This is normal, everyday wisdom. But what does it suggest about how waitstaff and salespeople approach customers who can’t tip or won’t buy anything?

The wisdom of God sees a bigger picture than tips and commissions paid out in this life. Righteous people treat everyone with love, regardless of whether they have money. They seek justice for those who are overlooked, silenced, or otherwise disregarded because they care about the people more than the payoff.

But there’s still a payoff for caring about justice for the poor. When this life is over, we’ll stand before God’s throne, and He’ll either say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” or we’ll know we acted no differently than the wicked.

Are you concerned with those who cannot benefit you in this life? Do you offer loving service to everyone, regardless of how they look, smell, or act toward you? Step up today and show the world whether you belong to the righteous camp or the wicked.

Prayer: Lord, give me a concern for the poor.
