Kids or Children

I was reading an interesting debate on whether Christians should refer to their children as kids

So just out of interest (not for any legalistic debate)...what are your thoughts?

Here's a couple of Bible verses that mention goats/kids


The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 11:6


And He shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left........
Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels
Matthew 25:33 & 41

Dear sister. I've never thought about it at great length.

In honesty, I've always seen it as interchangeable and have referenced them with either one with no particular attention to situation.

When it comes to my own. Normally I would use children, but have used kids as well....."those children are driving me crazy"....Now a days I normally say "boy" or "girl" or "son & daughter" when referencing to them. I do it in this light, because as I get older, my hope is that even if I forget their names. I should still be able to identify whether they are a boy or a girl.

Not to give children a totally bad name, I do have to add. Having watched children (and some adults) eat when they were smaller.....kids would work as well...."Those kids are eating us out of house and home"......

Very interesting in how we address our little treasures.

Where I live they mean the same thing, with no negative connatation on either, although people saying children are typically trying harder to "say" the right thing grammatically (all the time, like an english teacher). Personally, I think that as long as communcation is good, the proper ideas put forward, the words used mean less.

Etymology is interesting......

The word kid originates from the Old Norse (Scandinavian) word Kith which means Lamb.
Only later did kid come to mean the young of a goat.

Mine are not kids...I have 4 critters, 12 grandcritters and 14 greatgrandcritters but I have no kids....LOL

Children or lambs (if they are christian!)

Not kids. I dont like kids and wont have kids. Sorry. I always referred to children in my class by name or as children or boys and girls, I think its insulting to call a child a kid. Kids eventually grow into goats.

Jesus always referred to children by his pet name of lambs, and of course he is the Lamb of God.

By the way isnt is interesting that a German shepherd is a dog...that looks like a wolf.
