Joash began to rule over Judah in the seventh year of King Jehu's reign in Israel. He reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother was Zibiah from Beersheba. All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the LORD's sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 2 Kings 12:1-2 NLT
A disciple is one who wants to learn. The person teaching is one who chooses to pass on what they know. The disciple needs help and the teacher offers help. From a strictly human standpoint, the primary winner in this scenario is the disciple.
Take King Joash for instance. He is remembered as a good king, but the Bible credits the one who helped the young king learn to follow God and obey His commands. Jehoiada the priest made a long-term investment in the king’s life.
He wasn’t the only one to make such an investment. Moses invested in the life of Joshua. Elija invested in the life Elisha. Jesus invested three action-packed years into the lives of His disciples. Barnabas invested in the life of Paul.
Many men will say that when someone helped them in their spiritual journey, it led to significant change. Such relationships can accelerate growth and keep God at the forefront of personal decision-making.
Who has invested in your life? With whom will you invest time, talent, and treasure?
Prayer: Dear God, I need to remember that You created mankind for relationship. Help me know when to share and when to learn.
