When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked [is] no [more], But the righteous [has] an everlasting foundation. Proverbs 10:25 NKJV
We as Christians may wonder why God allows storms in our lives. But today’s scripture indicates that everyone—righteous and wicked alike—experiences rough weather. The difference is who’s still standing when the tempest is past.
Believers build their lives on the firm foundation of Jesus—and however hard the wind blows, their house is unmoved (Matthew 7:24-25). Through the worst of storms, Jesus goes with us, awaiting the proper moment to calm the wind and waves (Mark 4:35-41). God directs hail-and snowstorms to His own purposes, “for times of trouble, for days of war and battle” (Job 38:23). Whether literal or figurative, the tempests of life are simply one of God’s methods for dealing with humanity.
Since He wants “everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9), God may use the terror of storms to draw the unsaved to Himself. In believers’ lives, He might allow a storm for His greater, unseen purposes—as He did with Job. In ultimate terms, God will use the storm to sweep away His enemies, all the while strengthening and protecting His own children.
We won’t always understand the storms. But we can be sure that God does and is using every one of them for His wise design.
Prayer: Lord, help me to accept storms as part of Your plan—and keep me standing strong.
