"And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? "I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:7-8 NKJV
Whether it’s another mass shooting or simply our personal budget, much of life doesn’t add up. We want things to make sense, but many circumstances resist our best efforts at understanding: the illness or death of loved ones, our own emotional and relational challenges, the incomprehensible behaviors of individuals and nations.
That’s why we need faith.
Jesus spoke a parable to show His disciples “that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). He described a down trodden widow who continually pled with a judge for justice. Though the judge “neither feared God nor cared what people thought” (v. 2), he ultimately ruled for her just to make her go away. God the Father, who is nothing like that judge, will certainly care for His own, as today’s scripture indicates.
God allows trouble and confusion in our lives to build our faith—if things always made sense to us, why would we pursue Him? The key is simply to trust His wisdom and timing. Keep the faith…it’s what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6).
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust You in every situation. I want to keep the faith!
