Chad...In Luke 2:41-52, tells of Jesus going with His parents to Jerusalem for the passover at age 12, and it says He tarried behind and Joseph and his mother knew not that He wasn't with them. It doesn't say they were in the temple together until they find Him there amazing the doctors with His understanding and answers to their questions. In verse 27..."And he came by the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law." at eight days old(vs 21). Maybe both answers would/could be acceptable...just a thought.

I'm getting these questions / answers out of this book called The Ultimate Bible Fact & Quiz Book by River Oak.

Its a huge trivia book as well, I suggest it to anyone who wants a little bible study fun.
