The eternal God [is your] refuge, And underneath [are] the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, 'Destroy!' Deuteronomy 33:27 NKJV
When you volunteer your personal time and money, your behavior agrees with the character of God and you become a refuge to those who are struggling. When you work to stop injustice, your behavior mirrors God’s attributes and you become more like Him.
When you become a place of refuge for the people and family around you, when you become like His everlasting arms to the anxious or afraid, then your life aligns more with the character of the eternal God.
In Luke 11:42, Jesus tells the religious rulers that, although they give a tenth of their prosperity, they deny justice. Jesus warns them not to live like this. It provides no benefit to anyone, and it argues against God’s character.
Whenever a believer feels like David, “I am worn out calling for help” (Psalm 69:3 NIV), it is critical to listen and to meet that need, to become a refuge to him like God’s everlasting arms.
Prayer: Lord, help me become a place of refuge for those who are struggling. Help me become like Your everlasting arms for a worried or anxious family member or friend.
