But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him." The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground. Matthew 17:5-6 NLT
In one of the most spectacular scenes in all the Bible, Jesus appeared to His three closest disciples—Peter, James, and John—in His true glory. This event, known as the Transfiguration, is traditionally believed to have taken place atop Mount Tabor in Galilee.
With the three disciples looking on, “his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light” (Matthew 17:2). Just then, Moses and Elijah—the Old Testament’s two greatest prophets—arrived on the scene. Then the voice of almighty God thundered from heaven, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”
Listen to Him. That was God’s clear command to Peter, James, and John—and it’s His command to us today. We are to keep listening for His voice, reading His words in the Bible—and then apply all He says to our lives here on earth.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, with Your three closest disciples watching and listening, Your Father in heaven spoke His approval of You as His Son and as the one we should always listen to. I choose to listen to You daily and apply everything You have said to my life.
