Listen to the words of Jesus from John 7:37-39. [On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus was standing in the temple courtyard. He said loudly, "Whoever is thirsty must come to me to drink. (3 As Scripture says, 'Streams of living water will flow from deep within the person who believes in me.'" (39) Jesus said this about the Spirit, whom His believers would receive. The Spirit was not yet evident, as it would be after Jesus had been glorified.] What a powerful declaration from the Son of God about the Spirit of God. Jesus gave a great illustration concerning the effect of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life. Look at it this way: If I am filled to overflowing with God's Spirit, His divine nature, then I certainly ought to be very refreshing to all who come in contact with me. He is to flow out of me like a fresh flowing stream! People don't need more of me or my personal sewage; they need the life-giving, cleansing Water of Life! Jesus went on to say, "When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me..." The power He gives us, to show the world we are His disciples, is compared to a stream of fresh, running water. It's the supernatural ability to live a new life - a fresh, clean life. Do you have a River of Life flowing out of you? God be with you all...
