All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:42

In several polls in recent years, more and more people—including many professing Christians—say they don’t go to church services regularly, if at all.

One of the most common alibis for consistently skipping church is, “I don’t have to go to church to be a Christian.” While it may technically be true that you don’t have to attend church to be a believer, it’s also true that in order to grow in your faith, you need the teaching and fellowship you receive when you gather for worship and Bible study.

You receive these things when you attend services at church. That’s why the writer of Hebrews admonishes followers of Jesus Christ to not neglect “our own assembling together, as is the habit of some” (Hebrews 10:25).

Today’s verse gives a list of great reasons to attend church regularly, starting with receiving sound biblical teaching. It’s also at church that you fellowship with other Christians, which the Bible teaches is important for your spiritual growth.

God never intended for you to be a Lone Ranger Christian. He established the church to provide believers a means to receive teaching and fellowship. That’s why it’s a good plan for you to find a church that provides sound teaching and then commit yourself to going there on a regular basis.
