Hello all, just wondering if anyone can see a break in this logic. If so, please state this train of thought has had me worried for some time.

1-If God exists, then he is perfect
2-If God exists, then he is the creator of the universe
3-If a being is perfect, then whatever he creates must be perfect
4-But the universe is not perfect
5-Therefore, it is impossible for a perfect being to be the creator of the universe.

This thing has be baffled, yet interested. The universe is not perfect, this is evident from our apparent useless organs such as the appendix, the human vestigial tail, 'wisdom teeth', failures of certain species of plant, trees, mammals, and fish.

I would appreciate any insight that you guys might shed on this.

Dear Brother,

If you don't mind, I know the fact that you're an atheist, because I have seen your first post. I'm glad that you have joined this organisation. I also like the fact that you want to know about God.

Please do read this, it will bless you:

Well allow me to give you this illustration:

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said:

I don't believe that God exists.'

Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain.

I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.' The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkept. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:

You know what? Barbers do not exist.'
'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!'

'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because
if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.'

'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.'

'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point! God, too, DOES exist!
That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help.

That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.'

You say that God is not perfect. Well if that is the case, then can you create the smallest part of your hair. Can you create the most basic part of matter (that is an atom), can you create the smallest particle in the universe (that is an electron). Even if you can't create any of these little things, can you atleast count the number of hair on your head.

You know what, God knows the number of the hair on your head (Matthew 10:30). God knows you, more than what you know yourself to be. God knows the thoughts and secrets that you store in your mind. He knows your intentions. He knows everything in you, because

God loves you. That is why He sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross. He shed His blood for your sins as well as mine, as well as every one on earth.

There was a time when I hated God to the core, but He didn't punish me. He forgave me instead. In the same way He will forgive you too.

He loves you no matter what you are. He cares for you like as if your His own son.

God made every thing perfect. If you think that this universe is not perfect, may be your mistaken, it could probably be your world that is not perfect.

If you want your world to be perfect:

1) Just give your heart to Jesus.
2) Surrender your life to Jesus.
3) Ask forgiveness from Him (because every person including myself are born sinners).

and you will feel the difference.

God bless you.

Jesus loves you.

Jesus cares for you.

That's a great response! I read that before and what a simple yet powerful explanation it is. So true yet simple too. The main reason why the "universe" (actually, people) are not perfect is because people are sinners and they choose wrong out of their own GOD given freedom. Love requires freedom to be genuine and if you choose to love GOD, then amen to that. If you choose to disregard GOD, then you're very selfish and ungrateful for many of the blessings given to you by GOD's grace, such as:

- your family
- your health
- all the food you eat
- even material things you enjoy and possess
- nature's beauty

Also, just because man claims the 'appendix' is useless does not constitute it 100% true. If GOD created it, which He did then it has its purpose regardless of what man's very limited understanding might claim it to be.

Another thing, due to the fall of man (when sin entered the world), man's sin cursed the ground and everything within it.

Genesis 3:16-18 (King James Version)

16Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

The bible says that God created everything perfect but that God then subjected the world to vanity for the sake of the people who would become Sons of God.

This was always Gods plan and even this is a perfect plan although this plan required vanity for creation for His purposes to be met.

This creation in a sence was created more perfect then you even realize because 1) God created it perfect, all things working and running perfectly and in harmony, all things useful, purposful.
and
2) After the fall and vanity was put upon creation, causing the lack of harmony, causing all things to be at odds with each other, there still is a perfect harmony in this that keeps all things in cycles, each insect and rodent and animal etc.. in a food chain. And even the planets and stars and comets etc.. which can seem to be in chaos with collisions etc.. these things are perfect signs of spiritual things to Gods believers who watch for His signs in the heavens.

So God made the creation so perfect that it could function in its perfect state, and in vanity.

also there is no prior tail for humans, that area has many nerves that connect to the tail bone and are absolutly needed. the appendix does have a function and it is not wise to assume that just because men do not yet know something it doesnt exist or have a purpose or use. men did not know how to make computers before, that did not mean that the ability did not exist. men once did not know what was far in the universe but that doesnt mean nothing was out there.

Wisdom teeth are used and needed by some and some cultures have bigger jaws to support more teeth , furthermore there is sceintific evidence that we use to be larger and therefore would require more teeth in our mouths.
