Here is a question: Can you lose your salvation?

Let me explain, my sister accepted Christ at a young age. Since then she has fallen from Christ. She had an affair, doesn't go to church, and not living a life style pleasing to the Lord.

Can anyone back answers with scripture?

I have looked and can't find an answer. I know that paul says just because you are in Christ, does not give you the right to sin.....

thanks

No, being in Christ does not give you a right to sin. you should check out Romans 6.
Concerning your sister, I believe its best to keep her in prayer, if God moves in your heart to speak to her then you should. In philippians 1;6, it says that the good work that God began shall be performed until the day of Jesus Christ, so if your sister met Christ in her young age, for real, than God is going to finish the work He began, just trust Him, it also says that Christ goes himself to retrieve the straying sheep. Read John 6; 40, John 10;16, Luke 15. And even though she's walking how she is now, or if she didnt really meet Jesus for real, God hears your prayer, and God acts according to your faith and trust in Him. So just trust Him for your sister. Dont look at what you see here and now, for what is seen is passing away, our walk is by faith remember? God somehow got you, remember, He got me, and the members of Talk Jesus, so He is all the more capable, and willing to get your sister, just trust Him, dont doubt. He's willing, will you trust even when you cant see.
God Bless you

hi brother  im sure glad your there for your sis  we need to be standing in prayer for our families in unity  God bless you and help you along the way to be there for her

ok . . .i dont have a scripture vers right now .. .just giving you a thought. . .

a wise man from church said once. . . to the same question:

"Did you accept Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord?"

well . . .yes. . .but i didnt stay with it. . .didnt follow him . . .

ok. . .here is the example:

if you go to to church with your wife to get married . . .and you both say . .. .I do!

and you walk out of the church . . .and in front of the church you both say BYE to each other . . .and walk away from each other in opposite directions. . .

Are you still married???

YES!

Are you living in a relationship with your wife??

NO!!!

ok . . .so you didnt loose your salvation . ..but you walked the other way. . . .

Good thing God is not like that. . . .Good thing HE is faithful to us

there is an unforgiveble sin in Gods eyes. . .there is a thread in here on TJ about it too .. .but i doubt that that is what your sister has been doing. . . most ppl just didnt get what it means to live in a relationship with Jesus Christ personally. . .

for whatever reason!

the devil was there quick enough to snatch it away. . grow bitter roots. . .cover with dirt or let it dry up and die. . .

the little seed that was planted in your sisters heart. . .can grow again with the love and mercy of our wonderful Fathers love. . .the Almighty power of our Lord Jesus can reach your sister through His Holy Spirit by praying for God to interfere in her life . .. I believe God has never forsaken His ppl . ..and if He called your sis by name to accept Jesus in her young years . . .God will work on her . . He is able to draw her near into His fellowship . .. we can help her by praying for her . . .God will do His part Amen

We can all walk away from God, and I don't know if the prayers for forgiveness we made when we were saved last for all time or they need "toping up" every so often. Suppose someone sins just before dying, will that sin prevent that person entering the kingdom of heaven. It says that God will finish what he started. But do we still have a choice after we are saved to reject that salvation?
This probably hasn't helped you much but they are my thoughts on this difficult question.

My prayer is that you understand the grace of God, the grace and power of the cross, the blood that was shed by Jesus. In the scriptures Jesus said that he who eats of my flesh and drinks my blood shall have everlasting life, and will by no means perish. That means that when you accept the truth that Jesus Christ was pierced, bruised, beaten, crushed, broken, for your sins. He took the wrath of God for you, in your place, so that you may go free, and by accepting the truth that the blood of Jesus washes you of all your sins, wipes your slate clean, past, present, and future sins, believing in Jesus, confessing, acknowledging all your sins before God, knowing that there is nothing good within you apart from Christ, only the righteousness of God, only the sacrifice of Jesus that saves you.
All of us have sinned, and fallen in many points, but we know who we are apart from Christ, that's why we hold on to the cross of Christ and believe, Abraham was counted righteous because he believed, we are also counted righteous when we believe. And God's Spirit gives us power to carry out a righteuos life and carry out His good works.
it begins with faith.
John 12:46-48
'I am come as a light to the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words. and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him, the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Thanks for the input....

To me is seems like a gray area. I understand His grace and mercy and that we will all have to give an account of our lives.

But, at one time she did accept Christ as her saviour, but now she has said that she rejects him, because if she accepts him now, she would have to "be good" and she does not want to be good right now. She want to be "bad."

maybe the gray area will disappear for you then?

here is what the bible says

read ezekiel 18
Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:21 But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Eze 18:22 None of his transgressions that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?
Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he hath done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

read philippians 1:6, in context!
Phi 1:5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now; Phi 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Phi 1:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.
Phi 1:8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.
Phi 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;
Phil 1:6 needs to be understood in the light of the context of that book. Phil 2:12 declares that this church group always obeyed in Paul's presence. Though not perfect, this was not a lukewarn, pleasure-seeking group. Not only did they always obey, they were enduring the same types of struggles that Paul had (1:29, 30), and they alone helped support Paul financially from the very begining and were still doing so, as this epistle was being written (4:14-16)
Besides the context of the book, the immidiate context of the verse clearly shows why paul was so confident, as he states in verse 6. Verse 7 shows that the basis od Paul's confidence mentioned in verse 6 was not a guranteed OSAS(once saved always saved), which many read into the passage! The basis of Paul's confidence mentioned in verse 6 was that he has them in his heart, meaning they would be aided in their personal struggles by his heart-felt prayers cited in verse 9-11. The same phrase mentioned in verse 6, "until the day of Christ Jesus" is repeated in verse 10 as "until the day of Christ" which connects Paul's confidence for them to his prayers for them.
Christ who began a good work in those christians who continued in their fellowship in furtherance of gospel form the first day until now(meaning they didn't just turn away after they got saved or continue in sin), will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. This is what happens to a disobedient child of God
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:
Rom 1:21 because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves: Rom 1:25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:

Rom 1:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
Rom 1:28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.
Rom 2:1 Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judges another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.
Rom 2:2 And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practise such things.
Rom 2:3 And reckonest thou this, O man, who judgest them that practise such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:5 but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Rom 2:6 who will render to every man according to his works:
Rom 2:7 to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:

A person gets saved today, and recieved the Holy Spirit, now he is a new person, but if that person starts to live in sin and disobeying God, the Holy Spirit is there to help that person to turn away form their unrighteousness and back to being in obedience with God. Now if that person continues to disobey the Holy Spirit and grieves Him, Romans 1:24, 28 explains what God does to such a person. If you don't believe that these are Christians(once saved) that romans 1:18-2:7 are talking about, then I suggest you read the beginning of Romans, Paul will tell you to whom he was writing his letter to. Also, God will never render eternal life to non-Christians who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption. That would be a works salvation. But as you can see the bible does say that we will be judged according to our works in many places. If you are confused, maybe this scripture will help, James 2:17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.
Think about this, we don't have to do anything to get saved, but we have to do something to stay in Christ and that is: abide in Him (John 15:1-10), Walk in the Spirit and not of the Flesh(Galatians 5:16-26), endure to the end(Matt 10:22), remail faithful to Jesus(Revelation 2:10), and the list goes on, I can give tonnes of scriptures, but I think every Christian need to do their own bible study and have have the Holy Spirit teach them, he is the ultimate Teacher.

No. If someone believes Jesus is the Son of God, the crucified and resurrected Savior, then salvation cannot be lost.

It is unclear what you mean by "she rejects him." If you mean simply that she refuses the Christian lifestyle, but knows Who is Jesus, then she a "backslider," saved nonetheless.

"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames." (1 Corinthians 3:11-15)

This means that without right works the saved person will have to go through a harsh cleansing on judgment day. Nonetheless, heaven remains their destination.

The other case is if she has outright hardened herself against the reality of Jesus as the Son of God. Here are the words of Jesus, where He states that one may criticize the person of Christ (yes, God gives us that right), but those who turn against the Truth of the Holy Spirit (Who reveals to us that Jesus is the Son of God) have not salvation:

"Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." (Matthew 12:32)

What is acceptance of Christ?

Hello again, Bond_Servant.

In prayer for you to have the wisdom to be an effective witness to your sister, this question came up. My previous statements could mislead you, unless you have a clear understanding about what it means to "accept" Jesus.

What is acceptance of Christ?

The important aspect of knowing Christ is that it is one on one personal. When your sister accepted Christ, could she say, "He died for my sins." Did she understand that He forgives her personally? Does she know she can approach Jesus no matter what evils attract her?

From what you've related so far, Bond_Servant, it sounds like you-all might misunderstand, like thinking that only when one is on good behavior can they belong to Jesus. The first step to being saved, or returning to God, is knowing that He gives blanket access to Himself, no matter what is our current state.

John 15-17 "that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him."

Everyone is born corrupt. To varying degrees, everyone is attracted to darkness. That is why Christ is needed in the first place. It is only by being with Him that anyone can be purified. For a few, cleansing seems to come in an intense clean sweep. For others carnal ways may die hard.

John 18-21 "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Sometimes the opinions of other Christians may keep someone fearful about anything in the name of Jesus. But being with Him is not a show for people. I pray that your sister will understand that His love is completely unconditional. If she comes to Him first, His Spirit will enable her to desire the light that He offers.

Let us know if the feedback on your thread has been helpful. God bless you with His guidance.
