here is what the bible says
read ezekiel 18
Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:21 But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Eze 18:22 None of his transgressions that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?
Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he hath done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
read philippians 1:6, in context!
Phi 1:5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now; Phi 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Phi 1:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.
Phi 1:8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.
Phi 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;
Phil 1:6 needs to be understood in the light of the context of that book. Phil 2:12 declares that this church group always obeyed in Paul's presence. Though not perfect, this was not a lukewarn, pleasure-seeking group. Not only did they always obey, they were enduring the same types of struggles that Paul had (1:29, 30), and they alone helped support Paul financially from the very begining and were still doing so, as this epistle was being written (4:14-16)
Besides the context of the book, the immidiate context of the verse clearly shows why paul was so confident, as he states in verse 6. Verse 7 shows that the basis od Paul's confidence mentioned in verse 6 was not a guranteed OSAS(once saved always saved), which many read into the passage! The basis of Paul's confidence mentioned in verse 6 was that he has them in his heart, meaning they would be aided in their personal struggles by his heart-felt prayers cited in verse 9-11. The same phrase mentioned in verse 6, "until the day of Christ Jesus" is repeated in verse 10 as "until the day of Christ" which connects Paul's confidence for them to his prayers for them.Christ who began a good work in those christians who continued in their fellowship in furtherance of gospel form the first day until now(meaning they didn't just turn away after they got saved or continue in sin), will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. This is what happens to a disobedient child of God
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:
Rom 1:21 because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves: Rom 1:25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
Rom 1:28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.
Rom 2:1 Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judges another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.
Rom 2:2 And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practise such things.
Rom 2:3 And reckonest thou this, O man, who judgest them that practise such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:5 but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Rom 2:6 who will render to every man according to his works:
Rom 2:7 to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:
A person gets saved today, and recieved the Holy Spirit, now he is a new person, but if that person starts to live in sin and disobeying God, the Holy Spirit is there to help that person to turn away form their unrighteousness and back to being in obedience with God. Now if that person continues to disobey the Holy Spirit and grieves Him, Romans 1:24, 28 explains what God does to such a person. If you don't believe that these are Christians(once saved) that romans 1:18-2:7 are talking about, then I suggest you read the beginning of Romans, Paul will tell you to whom he was writing his letter to. Also, God will never render eternal life to non-Christians who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption. That would be a works salvation. But as you can see the bible does say that we will be judged according to our works in many places. If you are confused, maybe this scripture will help, James 2:17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.
Think about this, we don't have to do anything to get saved, but we have to do something to stay in Christ and that is: abide in Him (John 15:1-10), Walk in the Spirit and not of the Flesh(Galatians 5:16-26), endure to the end(Matt 10:22), remail faithful to Jesus(Revelation 2:10), and the list goes on, I can give tonnes of scriptures, but I think every Christian need to do their own bible study and have have the Holy Spirit teach them, he is the ultimate Teacher.
