“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.” (Romans 1:18-23 NASB’95)
God, in his infinite wisdom, made himself known to all of us through his created works. So we are able, through God’s created works, to see His invisible attributes and His eternal power and divine nature. So, if we choose ungodliness and unrighteousness as our life choice, and not godliness and righteousness, which come from God, and which are powered by God, then we are without excuse when we come up against the judgment and the wrath of God which he will pour out on all who choose their sin over God.
Since God has made himself known through his created works, and so he has revealed himself and his divine character to us all, then we have a choice either to choose God and his will and purpose for our lives, or to hold on to our sins and to keep living for self, and thus pay the ultimate penalty for our sin which is eternal separation from God in the fires of hell (eternal damnation). For if we choose not to honor God with our lives, in walks of obedience to his commands, but to continue in our sins, the end is death.
“Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” (Romans 1:24-25 NASB’95)
God is not going to force his will upon any of us. He will reveal himself to us through his created works, and through the teaching of the gospel, and through the teachings of the Scriptures, as a whole, but the choice is ours to choose him or to reject him. Now faith in Christ is not something we create in our own minds, for it comes from God, and it is persuaded of God, and it is gifted to us from God, along with his grace, but we still must be the ones to believe in Jesus, or to reject him and to continue in our sins, instead.
Now, there are many people today here in America who are giving lip service only to the Lord, who profess him as Lord and as Savior of their lives, but by their actions they deny him. So they are also numbered among the ungodly, for although they profess to know God, they have not died with Christ to their sins, and they are not now walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands. And so the Lord hands them over to the lusts of their flesh to do the unthinkable, because they love their flesh, and they don’t love God.
“For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.” (Romans 1:26-27 NASB’95)
Now this is specifically addressing the subject of homosexuality, men with men, and women with women, rather than man with woman being joined together in marriage to become one flesh. And homosexuality, in the eyes of God, is sinful. But it isn’t any more sinful, in reality, than the heterosexual male or female who is having an extra-marital affair, or who is addicted to pornography and to masturbation (sex with oneself). So we must guard against contempt of the homosexual while embracing the adulterer.
And we are to love all people, even our enemies, and we are to do good to them, pray for them, and bless them (say to them what will be beneficial for them). So we should not pamper the heterosexual adulterer who is habitually cheating on his spouse, either physically with another person or via porn addiction and self-gratification, and then treat the homosexual as the worst sinner ever to be ignored and to be treated hatefully by those who refer to themselves as “Christians.” We should treat all sinners the same.
And when I say “sinners” I mean those who are actively and deliberately and habitually sinning against God and against their spouses and against other humans without any sense of conscience or remorse, and without any intention to change course, which is obvious by their habitual sinful practices, many of them which have gone on forever. We are to love all people, and we are to pray for them, and do good to them, and we are to speak the truth to them in love, too. But don’t be hateful! Truth in love!
And then verses 28-32 give us a list of even more sins that the ungodly are practicing, as a matter of life course, in direct defiance of God and of his commands, and of his will and purpose for our lives. And this list includes greed, all evil, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, disobedience, untrustworthy, gossip, unloving, and unmerciful. And “although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” So this includes hypocrites in the mix, too.
What are we to do? We are not to make sin our practice, living in direct defiance to our Lord and to his commands. We are to be servants of the Lord for whom righteousness, moral purity, uprightness, and obedience to our Lord are what we practice, and for whom sin is no longer what we practice. This does not make us perfect, but it is where God draws the line between those who are his, by faith, and those who are not. And we are to love all people, do them good, and pray for them, speaking truth to them, in love.

For Our Nation
Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
