I heard this from somewhere and I just wanted to know if its true. I have no idea where to find iit in the bible so even if someone could tell me where to look would be awsome.

Does it say in the Bible that we are better off not marrying? Because this way we wont get into problems that married people would. and that we can keep all of our focus on God.

I'm not saying its true its just that I heard it from somewhere and I was just curious.

1 Cor 7:6-9
7I wish everyone could get along without marrying, just as I do. But we are not all the same. God gives some the gift of marriage, and to others he gives the gift of singleness.
8Now I say to those who aren't married and to widows--it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. 9But if they can't control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It's better to marry than to burn with lust.

Paul often speaks (or spoke) out of 'opinion' in his teaching.
Thologically, some reasoning for this could be cultural standards that were 'obvious' at the time, or it could simply be what Paul has learned from experience that has not been given to him directly as a Word form the Lord.
What should be said I think is that even though he was an Apostle... and his writing is in the Bible... he was not an infallible (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=infallible) human.

In this instance, I would suggest that the essence of Paul's comment is clear.. "It's easier to serve God when you don't have the responsibilities of looking after another person's needs."

He actually qualifies his statement however when he says "But we are not all the same. God gives some the gift of marriage, and to others he gives the gift of singleness."
This shows us that Paul have the gift of singleness, but that he is aware that not all do, and that God created us all not only differently, but with a Destiny that often includes Marriage.

I realise this thread is a hundred years old,but I would say that these days, the biggest reason people get married is either for the money, sex,or both
