Maundy Thursday ("Holy Thursday") is a holiday the Thursday before Easter, commemorating Jesus Christ's Last Supper and his washing of his disciples' feet. Maundy Thursday is Thursday, April 13, 2006 this year.(Web answer)

What are your beliefs in reference to communion?

What does it mean to partake of communion in unworthy manner?

1 Corinthians 11:27
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

Would anyone like to share your thoughts?

The partaking of communion for me is a remembrance of what Christ did on the cross and His blood that was spilt for us:

Mark 14: 22-25 - "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. "I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God."

In Matthew 5: 23-24 - "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift."

I know that this is referring to a gift. But for me, it's also the idea of reconciling myself not only to my brother (or sister) whom I've wronged but also to my Heavenly Father.

It goes on to say in 1 Corinthians 11: 28-32 - "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world."

So I examine myself and bring myself to the altar and ask God's forgiveness. Communion is a time of not only remembrance but of also a truthful look at ourselves for what Jesus did on that cross for us. Humbly bow and praise His Name.

God bless,
Snowrose

I believe an unworthy manner would be a lack of focusing on Christ's death, a lack of gratefulness for what He did for us, or being flippant about taking communion. Also, we are not to hold unforgiveness toward others when taking communion.

Communion

Snowrose is right on!!

1Cor. 10:16: The cup of blessing which we bless,
is it not the communion of the blood of Christ?
The bread which we break, is it not the communion
of the body of Christ?

God Bless!

Your brother in Christ,

Joe
