Question: "Does God still perform miracles? Why doesn't God still perform miracles like He did in the Bible?"

Answer: When God performed amazing and powerful miracles for the Israelites, did that cause them to obey Him? No, the Israelites constantly disobeyed and rebelled against God even though they saw all the miracles. The same people who saw God part the Red Sea later doubted whether God was able to conquer the inhabitants of the Promised Land. I invite you to read the parable in Luke 16:19-31. In the story, a man in hell asks Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to warn his brothers. Abraham informed the man, “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead” (Luke 16:31).

Jesus performed countless miracles, yet the vast majority of people did not believe in Him. If God performed miracles today like He did in the past, the same result would occur. People would be amazed and would believe in God for a short time. That faith would be shallow and would disappear the moment something unexpected or frightening occurred. A faith based on miracles is not a mature faith. God performed the greatest miracle of all time in coming to earth in the Man Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins (Rom 5:8), so that we could be saved (John 3:16). God does still perform miracles - many of them simply go unnoticed or are denied. However, we do not need more miracles. What we need is to believe in the miracle of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus' mission was to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. His many miracles were part of that plan, but, like the Kingdom He was introducing, the miracles were God displaying His infinite compassion and love.

Why aren't we seeing miracles of the quantity and scope described in the New Testament? Simple. We in the Western World are too sophisticated. We don't need God as much as the early church did. We have skilled doctors and medical researchers working in huge hospitals and research labs with state of the art hi-tech equipment. For us, prayer and seeking God is the last resort. For them, it was usually the only resort.

God is doing awesome miracles in the underdeveloped parts of the world because those folks are much more open to that sort of thing than we are. They've been dealing with spiritual forces all their lives. For them, prayer is most often the only option. They feel a need for God much more strongly than we do.

"You never know how much you need God until God is all you've got."

Hi Chad & Spiritled

What you spoke of is so true. But Oh how I long for more of Him and less of me.

Fill my cup, Lord.
I lift it up, Lord
Come and quench this thirsting in my soul
Bread from Heaven,
Feed me till I want no more
Fill my cup
Fill it up
And make me Whole

Hi Chad,

To accept that position is to reject some very clear and foundational teaching in the Bible.

It is simply someone who is trying to reconcile the abysmal state of the church and the pitiful spirituality of North American christianity with biblical truth.

To decide that certain parts of the Bible are no longer needed or applicable, especially when the Bible does not make any indication that the changes have occurred, is very spiritually dangerous.

The Great Commission remains unchanged, it still applies today, and will until the consummation of all things.

We cannot let our experience determine what we believe to be true, and if we are not seeing miracles that we should be - in Biblical proportions - then rather than re-interpret scripture, we would do well to get on our faces and repent.

Mark 16:15-18

15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Wow, I guess that I should complety read a post before assuming that I know what it is going to say and then going off like that :embarasse

As you can see, that is a sensitive point with me, as there are so many who deny the power of God...

Maybe I will allow myself to become fully awake before trying to post next time...

Nevertheless, miracles are not intended to be the basis of someone's faith, Jesus is, and miracles are intended to be here today, as they are recorded in the NT. They strengthen your faith as well.

LOL! Read you loud and clear Richard

Preach it Brothers!

Stop seeking a sign and seek the Christ. Like I have said so many times, Most believers are following after signs and wonders instead of signs and wonders following after believers. I totally agree Richard, when we are not seeing the evidences of the Mark 16, the problem is us as believers.

True brother jiggyfly. This is so true and so sad. I witness this in front of me with my family (hardcore catholics, traditional kind). They think too much of miracles and are deceived by the evil one. The evil one has performed nasty "miracles" to their eyes all the way back in Lebanon (hometown), where for one instance the statue of Mary (here we go again) that originally pointed "north" pointed south out of the blue one day. South is where the war was happening and this "sign" was a miracle that they claim GOD's protection (or if I remember, Mary's protection). Its insane and very sad. It breaks my heart that they are this deceived and deceived at all.

That story is a very popular one in Lebanon, not just internal in my family.

May GOD lift up the veil that deceives them and grant them wisdom, then receive His glory as always should be

Are u saying that the Lord doesnt want to do miracles in the church today to show others that He is a miracle-working God? I know that the greatest miracle of all is salvation, and their is nothing that can make that greater, but dont u think the Lord wants to heal people and do miracles in their lives like in the past. Isnt Jesus the same yesterday today and forever? If more saw the hand of God working miracles in and out of our churches today wont more come to Christ? why cant we have churches like the acts church where the Lord performed miracles daily and others saw it and came to the Lord. The Lord said in John 14:12-14 Most assuredly, I say to u , he who believes in Me , the works that I do he will do also and greater works than these he will do because I go to My Father. and whatever u ask in My name that I will do that the Father may be glorified in the Son If u ask anything in my name I will do it. Doesnt that mean that we as disciples of Christ have the same Jesus working through us and using us. Why does the church in USA not have that same Power that Jesus gave the disciples of the past? Their are so many people that need miracles in their lives big and small, all types. Why as His disciples are we not asking for God's miracles here today in usa ?

Simple question that has a simple answer. Too much flesh. There are droves of people trying to follow Jesus without denying themselves and taking up their cross. They are deceived into believing that this is possible by all the modern "easy gospel" preachers and teachers. But the truth is Jesus said if we want to follow Him we must deny ourselves and take up our crosses. I guarantee, if you find a true follower of Christ, you will also find God doing the miraculous through this person.
