More! More! More!
- July 09, 2005
"Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things." Philemon 3:19
No pun intended, but obesity is a growing problem. Adults and children alike tend overeat beyond the point of satiating hunger, and then combine this with a lifestyle which has little physical activity. This mind-set of "More! More! More!" is causing significant health problems among the world's masses.
Some people are gluttonous with food, and others want "More! More! More!" of other things that can be just as harmful, such as abuse of alcohol, or seeking an over-abundance of material items.
I don't know why we have this notion that if one is good, 100 will be better! In other words, a glass or two of wine with dinner is lovely and good for digestion, but one person drinking the whole bottle in a single sitting is over-doing it. Same thing is true with material goods. It's perfectly fine to want nice things, but do we really 'need' to own 20 pairs of sun-glasses, 150 pairs of shoes, and enough jewelry to start our own boutique?
Some people even over-do it where their jobs are concerned. They are so focused on getting "More! More! More!" from their careers, that they may not even notice that while they are climbing the ladder of success, their marriages are falling apart, and children are running amuck.
Our heavenly Father, God, wants us to enjoy life and be healthy, but one needs wisdom to be able to discern between what is healthy desire, and what is greed and gluttony.
Today is a good day to break those chains of bondage which may be weighing you down. Let God be your strength, hope and light at the end of the tunnel.
