Paying attention to Jesus is a great way to be encouraged and strengthened in your faith. Jesus wanted life change for those who met Him, and listening allowed them to gain enough information to avoid discouragement and embrace something better. And it was more than just listening, wasn’t it? The phrase used at the beginning of this reading was “paying attention,” meaning truly connecting what God says in His Word with what you understand in your mind. The words you read in the Bible are just feel-good quotes when they don’t connect from your lips to your heart.
Take God’s words. They are yours without cost. Do something with them. They have the power to make you new. Connect them to your actions. They can teach you how to represent God in everything you do.
If you have ears, then listen. If you have eyes, read and understand. If you have a heart, let what you hear and see impact what you believe. When this trifecta of engagement occurs, you will find yourself taking heart.
Prayer: Father, there are things I can do to receive courage and strength. I want to do them and not neglect them. I want to use them to find the encouragement I need to keep my feet walking in Your steps.
