my boring testimony

Sometimes I feel like I'm at a disadvantage when giving my testimony. I hear people giving their testimony and they've got a background with lots of interesting stories full of sex and drugs and occult, and people are always really interested to hear how they turned their life around. Wicked people like sharing stories of sin, and when a saved person has stories that are just as good as theirs, they'll listen to him and it seems like a good way to break the ice and start getting them interested in the gospel.

I don't have anything like that in my past so my testimony is really boring compared to that. I've believed in Jesus as long as I can remember, I've never been in any kind of trouble, and I got saved when I was 11. My life chaged after I got saved for sure, I got really interested in learning about God and the Bible and doing what he wants me to do. But when I try to talk to people who aren't saved about God we don't seem to have a lot in common and it's hard for us to relate with each other. They tell me I don't understand where their coming from and their right because I don't. So they don't listen to me.

Does anyone else have that problem? What do you do about it?

When someone tells me I don't understand where they're coming from; or I don't know what they've been through, I usually say I probably don't. But then I ask them to explain to me, so I can gain a wee bit of understanding. From there, I can use the appropriate scriptures to minister with. I also pray and ask Him for wisdom and guidance; His anointing; that I would be able to speak words of life to that person.

There is something to be said (in the Word of God) for a man (or woman) who will walk with God.

Dont let the enemy fool you about Gods ability to use a man (or woman) after His own heart.

On the other hand, always remember that it is not about you, its about Christ. You are pointing the world to Him, not pointing to yourself.

Isa 53:1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
Isa 53:2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.
Isa 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned--every one--to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Jesus never had any of these things to talk about experiencing either. He lived perfectly without sin. You are a testimony to the power of God! How you face the same temptations other people do but through following the Lord from an young age He has kept you in all of these situations from sinning. This is powerful! Don't ever think any different and don't let the enemy get his foot in the door. God is faithful. Gbu.

Thanks, that sounds like good advice.

lol, I'm not without sin, I just don't have any big colorful stories about hitting rock bottom before getting saved like alot of other Christians do. But yeah I see what your saying and I can talk about how God has given me a reason not to expirament with those things.

I was not refering to you being sinless! We all fall short. That is why we need Christ! lol  Christ was and is victorious over this world and the sin that binds us. I am saying that we as christians submit to the Lord so that we might be transformed into the very image of Christ. So your life is a testimony to that. The victory is in the Lord. Sorry if I confussed you. Gbu

My wife has one of those "boring" testimonies~~I'd trade all my "adventures" from my youth for "boring" testimony..consider that your life is a gift, and you didn't damage it like I did mine.

I am most surprised to read of Testimonies being boring. But I hear you good folks, and appreciate your thoughts.

A good man for a Testimony in the N.T. is the man Lazarus, a member of the church in Bethany.

In the gospel of John folks came to the house of Simon to see him, because of his testimony of being raised from the dead. Some of the folks that came were only spectators........just checking out to see what the man Jesus had done.....Can it be real......ect.

But all who follow Jesus have a powerful testimony....Like Lazarus we also have been raised from the dead. We have a testimony that gives glory to Jesus....and that is being raised from death to life.

None of us have a boring testimony....surely not.

"By His blood He has saved us......By His power He has raised us......To God be the glory for the things He has done".

Your testimony is not boreing.....This is Satans lie....Your testimony is mighty.......

Religeous folks, do not have a testimony....think about the Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Jew too,at this time, and others tied into a life without Jesus. They do not have a testimony.

The distinction Jesus makes when He saves us....is to give a testimony of a passage from death to life.........Hallelujah

Be blessed...God has done so much for you. Shout it out. You are as precious to Jesus as anyone else in the whole world

That's right ! I also have an 'interesting' testimony. But you have to know how many times I wished that it would be different. That I would have become a christian much earlier, before I started a life of going out and partying, drinking etc. I wished I had joined 'Youth for Christ', how different my life/teenage years would have looked like.

That sincerely is not a boring testimony in any way. You are so blessed that when you accepted the Lord Jesus in your life that you had a hunger to learn His word and to obey. You are certainly living proof that God can keep you because you put your faith and trust in Him right from the beginning of your new life in Christ Jesus. The awesome part about this is that you are a witness to others that you don't have to do the drugs and all the other things that are involved in the world...that when you have a made up mind to follow Jesus He can keep you free from that life-style.

It is unfortunate that there are others who have done those things, but you must remember that your testimony is not just for the lost, it can be a encouragement and an example to someone who is struggling and who feels like giving up. They can look at you and say that if you can make it then they can too. Thank God you didn't have to go through with all the things that others had to endure. Even though you may not feel that your adequate to witness to someone with a more colorful past, you can let someone know that God can keep you safe from having to go through all the heartaches and pain if you will just put your complete trust in HIM.

Not a disadvantage

I would have to disagree and I would like to try to help you see the other side of this. What you see as a disadvantage can really be used as an advantage. You have abided in Christ for so long that your spirit flows unhindered with His.
The people you say have interesting storries would disagree with you when you call it interesting. I would bet you two months salary that any person who went through the hard knocks of life would trade testimonys in a heartbeat. We are at the disadvantage because it is a constant struggle to remain in Him, to follow Him, to minister to others because the hard knocks have made us jaded.
Don't view your life and testimony as a disadvantage but rather ask God to use you and you will see that what you have to offer is so much more when its reflected through Him.

Every conversion is awesome. Every testimony is awesome. No matter how you got here...you arrived. Christ is your Saviour. You spent time living life without Him...now you walk with Him.

And to have the privilege to proclaim Christ is King...what sweeter testimony is there than that?

lol I didn't mean it was boring to me I meant it it's boring to the lost when I try to witness to them, because they seem to be much more interested in hearing about how people like them ended up getting saved. I'm happy with how I turned out. Thanks, God!

the important thing is you are telling them about Jesus. God loves them. and just because you dont have anything in your background as other christians dosent mean that God cant change them. or that he wont. Jesus was tempted just as we are. He knows. if they dont listen because you have had a life as you have then maybe, just maybe they arent interested in Jesus. sounds to me they are more interested in a shoulder to cry on. woe is me woe is me. not that we dont all need that sometimes. if what you tell others falls on deaf ears what can you do? just pray for them.

hows that saying go... something like, you cant make a horse drink. all you can do is lead it to the water.

be glad you never fell into the things other people have. I thank God every day I never got into drugs and a life of crime. I've seen alot of my friends do drugs and do all sorts of dumb things. Your testimony is better I'll tell you why, God has been in your life and that kept you from a life of sin and destruction. That my friend makes you sprititully stronger then most people, and that's what counts my friend

My testimony isn't boring, but it is different. I never took drugs or drank until I passed out. I was abused...and that was very traumatic for me.

I think that to compare our lives and experiences with someone else's isn't a good idea.

It almost says that what God saved us from and how our lives went isn't good enough...we want this or that...kinda like jealousy. Not saying you are jealous...just saying some people are like that. Not only do they want something someone has, but want the life they led.

We all have a choice...we go this way or that. Sometimes things happen to us and sometimes we do things.

I would not trade my testimony for another because it is what it is and I have learned SO much. I can see where God was with me through all the abuse and He wept with me.

See, I had asked why me, God a lot...and later He showed me.

God gave you this testimony of saving you from the pain of an 'exciting' testimony. Don't take that lightly. I don't take my testimony lightly. I know and still feel the pain...sadness...the guilt and shame...but God is still working on me.

The deep scars of our pasts make us strong. The past like yours makes you strong, too. You can say God saved me from all this...to me there is no such thing as a boring testimony...I guess it is what you deem boring.

I am thankful to God for what he has done in my life through all my experiences and I can say truthfully I am a stronger person for it...some might not understand how I would not give up what has happened to me for a 'boring' testimony or a less traumatic one. If I had not gone through the fire, I would not be who I am in Christ Jesus today.
