My Dad has had a Stroke

Hi all,

On Tuesday morning my Dad had a stroke, we suspect that it was caused by his heart condition, he has an irregular heart beat sometimes and that can occasionally throw up clots to the brain. This was his first stroke.

My Dad is improving. It's at times like these when we realise just how lucky we are to have our parents. Many people don't have parents. I am pleased to report that since the bombshell that happened the day before yesterday, my Dad has regained some of his speach although his words are still slurred, he can move his right side now but his movements are limited. My Dad's intelligent mind is returning to him.

Unfortunately, there is a couple of killer bugs in the hospital where he is staying and so visiting is limited to one person at a time and between 7-8 pm at night. Unfortunately, he can't see his grandkids as children are not allowed in the hospital until the bugs are brought under control!

He is very bored in hospital any suggestions as to what he could do to pass the time would be most welcome, you have to pay money to watch the TV and he won't do this on principle. Also because of his diabeties, he just about sees things with a magnifying glass and glasses, he is 75 and he can't walk very far. I will continue to pray for him, so your prayers would be much appreciated. Does anyone also have ideas of what I could take to him, maybe poetry or some verse that might give him encouragement please.

 God Bless You All

Father I pray for a total healing for eve's dad from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. Thank you that Your are the great healer and physician and nothing is impossible for You. I pray you will comfort and support the family during this time of recovery and pray for your protection from the bugs too. I pray that the bugs will be brought under control in the hospital too in Jesus' name amen.

1 Pet.2 NIV

4He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

Mark 11:24 NIV

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Poetry sounds really good eve too. Can he have music to listen to with headphones?

God bless you sister and remember that God is in control.

Praying for you father, Eve. Praying for you and your family as well. Stuff to do? He can't see very well? Can you bring him a radio and some books on tape? Keep us posted.

Hi All,

Thank you so much for your prayers. My Dad had a brain scan and the results indicate that he did have clot on his brain which resulted in a stroke and fortunately, it has cleared now. They don't know whether his diabeties caused it or his heart condition. He is still in hospital and is on the road to a good recovery. The hospital have said that they will move him over to the stroke ward when he is feeling up to it and will work on his physiotherapy and rehabilitation. He has come a long way from when it first happened. Initially, he could only move his head and couldn't speak, just make rudimentary noises.

He is now able to walk a short way. His mouth on the right side is less dropped. He speech is much clearer and he can feed himself. He is improving in leaps and bounds each day. So we hope and pray that there won't be any residual, permanent damage. We will have to wait and see though what the doctors say. He is also being prescribed some new pills which are anti-stroke blood pressure pills. Which is reasuring for us, so it will help reduce the risk of it occurring again.

At the moment I am visiting him as often as the hospital will allow, so I will report back if there is any more news. Thank you for all your prayers, support and kind words. You have all been so very kind.

God Bless

 Eve

Your question of what your father can do regarding his boredom is a very interesting question. I am now looking for answers myself seeing that he has all those conditions and maybe somewhere, someone will come out with a answer to the problem.
In the meantime will I pray for your dad to heal completely.

I will pray for your father sister Eve,

I find that reading Christian books, factual books, helps break my boredom completely, it's second only to God's Word.

I was secluded from Society for 2 weeks in December 2006, while visiting with a friend. I bought 3 Christian books at a bookstore and read them all in 2 weeks, which is a great feat for me.

I will recommend this book for your dad, please do a google search for it and try to find it locally available where you live.

That is encouraging news eve. Thank you for the update.

I know a lady who had a stroke and she has improved so much and just has to be careful when walking that nobody bumps into her to knock her over.

God is a God who heals today.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:
