My Mission Field
My wife and son and I moved into our home in a small town in 1978. We have seen many families come and move on since then. I noticed a post by a girl on face book that was done by one of my former neighbors. She was indicating her appreciation for Jesus who saved her by grace. Many years ago we took her to bible school where she accepted Jesus into her heart. This caused me to think about the many people we have affected in our lifetime.
Our neighbor became my wife’s best friend. Our families ate together and played rook for 20 years. During that time we took the neighbors daughter to bible school where she also got saved. When she got home she talked and talked about Jesus to her family but to no avail. My wife often talked to her about God and her need to get saved. She said, “We like our church” and “my wife said it is not the church that saves you it is a relationship with God and his son Jesus.” After about 19 years the neighbors dad died. She came crying to my wife and said I think my dad is in hell! What pain of heart she had. My wife held her as she cried. What could we say? It was to late for her dad. She had a brain aneurysm after she and my wife were best friends for 20 years. Thank you God that she came to my wife one day about three months before she died and told my wife “I have asked Jesus to come into my heart.”
Mike was my neighbor and friend. He was also a carpenter. I hired him to build my back porch roof in his spare time. It took all summer. I would take him quart bottles of coke about every day. I loved bible prophecy even back then. I would tell him what the bible said was coming. He was interested. By the end of the summer I had a new roof and Mike had Jesus in his heart.
Josh and Jake my twin neighbor boys moved in 7 years ago. Their dad left a few years later. The boys would come over and sit with me on my front porch. When they needed air in their bike tires they came to us. We took them to church and paid for them to go to bible camp in the summer. I witnessed to them and gave them Gideon bibles. We loved them to Jesus too!
