'And I will set up one Shepherd over them,
and He shall feed them, My servant David.
He shall feed them, and He shall be their Shepherd.
And I Jehovah will be their God,
and My servant David a ruler among them.
I Jehovah have spoken.'
(Eze 34:23-24)

'And say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah:
.. Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone,
.... and will gather them on every side, and will bring them into their own land.
...... And I will make them one nation in the land on the mountains of Israel,
........ and one King shall be king to them all.
.......... And they shall not still be two nations,
............ nor shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
.............. Nor shall they be defiled with their idols,
................ even with their filthy idols, nor with all of their transgressions.
.................. But I will save them out of all their dwelling places,
.................... in them where they sinned, and will cleanse them.
...................... And they shall be to Me for a people, and I will be to them for God.
........................ And David My servant shall be King over them.
And there shall be one Shepherd to all of them.
And they shall walk in My judgments, and obey My Laws, and do them.
And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant,
the land in which your fathers have lived.
And they shall dwell in it, even they and their sons, and the sons of their sons for ever.
And My servant David shall be their ruler forever.
And I will cut a covenant of peace with them.
It shall be an everlasting covenant with them.
And I will place them, and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever.
And My tabernacle shall be with them.
Yea, I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
And the nations shall know that I Jehovah sanctify Israel,
when My sanctuary shall be in their midst forever.'

(Eze 37:21-28)

Hello there,

Here we read of a resurrected King David ruling over redeemed Israel. I have difficulty with this: For Christ Jesus our risen and glorified Lord, God's only Begotten Son, and Israel's Messiah and King, must reign until all enemies are placed beneath His feet (1 Corinthians 15:27-28). Does David act as a form of vice-regent ruling the People within the nation of Israel, with the Lord ruling over all ?

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't seem able to get a grip on this.

Thank you

King David is dead. The servant is never greater than the master.

David is being represented as the future Christ, through his heritage.

Thank you, @Bill, for your input.

Yes, King David is dead, but he has the hope of resurrection life to come, How wonderful that is!

Do you mean that the reference to King David is really referring to the Messiah Himself? He being a direct ancestor, and the Messiah being therefore the rightful heir to that throne? I did wonder that, and this is why I sought confirmation of these two passages of Scripture.

David is not the Messiah. And is not rightful heir to the throne.

David writes ( it is in the scripture) "the Lord said to my Lord". David is referring to someone else as "his Lord" . It is clear , he is not the Messiah

Hello @Bill,

You have mistaken me. For I did not say that David was the Messiah.

It is Christ Jesus our risen Lord Who is The Messiah, and He is the rightful heir to the throne of David, through the lineage of King David.

Ok , thank you

So far, none of my Bibles say this. I am curious what translation is this?
If you follow down the conversation I had with complete you'll see I asked the very same thing.

And the last comment that came from complete answered the question

'And David my servant shall be king over them;
and they all shall have one shepherd:
they shall also walk in My judgments,
and observe My statutes, and do them.
And they shall dwell in the land
that I have given unto Jacob my servant,
wherein your fathers have dwelt;
and they shall dwell therein, even they,
and their children, and their children's children for ever:
and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.
Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them;
it shall be an everlasting covenant with them:
and I will place them, and multiply them,
and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
My tabernacle also shall be with them:
yea, I will be their God, and they shall be My People.
And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel,
when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.'
(Ezekiel 37:24-28)

Hello @B-A-C,

I quoted from Ezekiel 37, in which it says in verse 25, ' ... and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.' ( which is taken from the KJV ).

Thank you B-A-C,
Good to hear from you again.
Chris

and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

Still, I wonder if a prince has more authority than a king?

Rev 17:14; "These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful."
Rev 19:16; And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

Another thought is..

Rev 5:5; and one of the elders *said to me, "Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals."
Rev 22:16; "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

Does being the "root (descendant) of David" count for the same thing?

'I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.
I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.'
(Rev 22:16)

Hello @B-A-C,

It is interesting that the wording of Revelation 22:16 says, 'I am the 'root' and 'the descendant' of David, isn't it?

"I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright, the Morning Star."
These titles are Jewish: and proclaim their owner as the coming one who shall confirm and fulfil all the promises made unto David. The Lord Jesus is both the "Root" from whence David came, and the "Offspring" which came from David. (See Isa. 11. 1; John 8. 55-59):-

'And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,
.. and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

.... And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
...... the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
........ the spirit of counsel and might,
.......... the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD:
.. and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes,
.... neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
...... But with righteousness shall he judge the poor,
........ and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth:
.......... and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth,
............ and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.'
(Isaiah 11:1-4)

* On this fact the Lord's question was based in Matt. 22: 41-46.

'While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Saying, "What think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? "
They say unto Him, "The Son of David."
He saith unto them, "How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
..'The LORD said unto my Lord,
.... Sit Thou on my right hand,
...... till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool?'

........ If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?"
And no man was able to answer Him a word,
neither durst any man from that day forth ask Him any more questions.'
(Mat 22:41-46)

'Jesus answered, "If I honour Myself, My honour is nothing:
.. it is My Father that honoureth Me;
.... of Whom ye say, that He is your God:
...... Yet ye have not known Him; but I know Him:
........ and if I should say, I know Him not, I shall be a liar like unto you:
.......... but I know Him, and keep His saying.
............ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day:
.............. and he saw it, and was glad."
Then said the Jews unto Him,
.. "Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?"
Jesus said unto them,
.. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
Then took they up stones to cast at Him:
but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple,
going through the midst of them, and so passed by.'
(Joh 8:54-59)

* But there is a third title — "The Morning Star' which ushers in the Eternal day. The reference is to Num. 24: 17.

' I shall see Him, but not now:
.. I shall behold Him, but not nigh:
.... there shall come a Star out of Jacob,
...... and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel,
and shall smite the corners of Moab,
and destroy all the children of Sheth.'
(Num 24:17)

* Sorry I am getting carried away here. I feel that this is going to be a question (OP) that I am going to have to wait until I see the Lord to fully understand.

Thank you B-A-C,
It is good to talk with you again.
Chris
