I have struggled with a addiction for several years. It is a bondage that a child of God should not have. It has hindered to some degree comunication and my willfull walk with God. I want more than any thing in this life to give it up for Jesus but have had many failed attempts. I will not lose hope and am turning to you my brothers and sisters in Christ for your much needfull prayers and help. I am desperate to please God in this manner and NEED Jesus to rule over all parts of my life. It is in the heart to repent of this. I started this habbit before i was saved but the effects are still there to this day and should no longer be. Please help.

Walk in the spirit and you will not fullfil the lusts of the flesh.

Let me know in private (My Email) what you habit is and I maybe able to help you rid yourself from it. I had a similar problem.

Your not alone

Hey bro/sis,hard to know how to help you directly without knowing the nature of your problem.Whatever it is please be assured you are not the only one to be suffering with it,as the bible says"there is nothing new under the sun".Over the years I have struggled with many sins of the flesh and in some cases still do.The important thing to remember is that we are created in Gods image, and while of course he does not sin he is aware of everything we feel and go through,why- he is aware of every hair upon our heads.also sometimes a sin can become so big in our own heads that we put a block in front of God ourselves and he is in fact waiting for you with arms open wide.Theras a wonderful scripture in Matthew 11v28-30:Come to me all you who are toiling and loaded down, and i will refresh you.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and you will find refreshment for your souls. For my yoke is kindly and my load is light. When you read about him like that you just realise what agreat guy he is,i mean what a best friend to have!In addition God has guided you to talk Jesus for a reason, think about that, feel free to share your burdens with any of the faithful brothers and sisters here, even old Sparky if you like one of the biggest sinners here.Im sure you`ll find a sympathetic and empathetic ear.GB and keep the faith-Sparky

I pray for your Spirit that it may overcome whatever afflicts you.Keep your faith strong and don't stop trying ,the more you resist the weaker the temptation will get.Don't get down on yourself, but have everlasting hope ,for there is a power in you thats stronger than yourself. You are not alone. We all have had to overcome addictions in our lives, some stronger than others.

I pray that you will continue in your faith and that God will uplift your heart and bring peace to your Spirit. May he surround you with his Almighty Power and comfort your anguish.

My Addiction is chewing Tobaco. Nasty habbit i know far to well. My question to you all is do you feel that when you continue down the path such as i have. Is or can this worldly (flesh) addiction be associated with a form of idolitry? It seems to have such a hold on me physicly that i can't seem to stop for God. It can seriously put a strain on my relationship with him and feel i am locked into disobeying him (not because at all i want to). I am in total fear that the lord looks at it maybe in this way. People have been able to quit and i have tried many times and failed. Every time i have tried it was to give it up for my savior. It hurts when Jesus sees me this way. Honestly its hard to even try knowing my track record. My God is Jesus not this addiction!!!

You have planted the seed. You need to keep watering it.Try to focus more on God and less on tobacco.I think that by constintly focusing on the problem you make it worst. You asked the Lord to heal you,now it's time to accept the healing. The addiction is now become a temptation that only diverts you from the Lord.I smoke cigarettes and would like to stop, but I wouldnt let my fight with cigarettes reduce me in the eyes of the Lord.If you fill yourself with the Word, things like what we are going through have a way of fading away.Dwell on the Lord not your temptation.God bless you.By faith we are healed.

Amen. Everyone here responded with great advice and words of GOD. It is true, focus on GOD, move away from the place where you keep your tobacco stash and actually - throw them away with a smile on your face. Your better off wasting your money buying more to throw them away (Until you've finally come to realize your done with the habit), than to waste your teeth away from that stuff and get CANCER (emphasis added to remind you of the consequence of tobacco and to put fear in chewing it any longer).

GOD loves you always and sees in your heart that you are trying to walk the right path which is great news. Let GOD deliver you by listening to GOD. Read His words, pray ferventlly and repent harder like you have absolute authority of any habit given by power in Christ Jesus

I recently quite smoking and everytime the "need" for a cmole happened no matter where i was or what I was doing I started to pray and sing and let me tell you nothing was better than that time!!! I felt completely loved and so very happy and when I was done singing and praying I didnt want that smoke and I still do it now. It has been 4 months and I still sometimes think about it and that is when I start praying I will keep you in my prayers

I think Jesus had something very important to say on the subject of what
we put into our bodies, and His message remains, that these things are NOT what defile (cause you to be unclean in His sight). Tobacco use is not a SIN, it can, as in your case, become an addiction, as become many other substances that can be swallowed/chewed or inhaled. (anti-depressant anyone?) We as human beings, make use of a wide variety of crutches to help us cope with daily life, (all the coffee addicts can nod their heads now) :secret: and some of these can be very bad for our health. As a child of God, these things should be dealt with as such, not be something your standing with God is determined by.
You are not condemned by Christ, SlaveToChrist, so let go of the fear, and the struggling, and the self-condemnation that does not come from Christ, and give this problem to Him, to help you as He surely will, as He helps all who come to Him with our very human failures to be perfect. Praise God!

2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Mar 7:18-23 And he [JESUS] saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, [it] cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

2Ti 1:7-9 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Coconut has touched on a very important thing. It is true that we must do our best to avoid abusing our bodies and do our best to keep them in good working order but the most destructive form of abuse that people engage in is verbal abuse of others. Words can cut like a knife. They can also comfort and uplift others. Often they are better than a hug.

SlaveToChrist The Spirit has lead you to understanding as it does with all believing sinners. Ultimate victory over sin will be ours through Jesus upon the resurrection. But while we are here we will fight the good fight, the one we wage with ourselves. Your post is evidence of your fighting spirit. Remember SlaveToChrist the only time we are defeated is when we give up the fight. Engaging in the fight is evidence of the Spirits work within. :thumbs_up

It is good to fight against our own flesh but we must also must seek to love. Too often people are more saddened by the things they have done then the things they have failed to do. We should spend more time focused on the good we should be doing rather than the bad we are doing. The more we focus on something the more we think about it. It can ba a viscous cycle or a postitve cycle depending on what we spend all out time thinking of.

Philipp 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -- meditate on these things.

All Praise The Ancient Of Days
