My Addiction is chewing Tobaco. Nasty habbit i know far to well. My question to you all is do you feel that when you continue down the path such as i have. Is or can this worldly (flesh) addiction be associated with a form of idolitry? It seems to have such a hold on me physicly that i can't seem to stop for God. It can seriously put a strain on my relationship with him and feel i am locked into disobeying him (not because at all i want to). I am in total fear that the lord looks at it maybe in this way. People have been able to quit and i have tried many times and failed. Every time i have tried it was to give it up for my savior. It hurts when Jesus sees me this way. Honestly its hard to even try knowing my track record. My God is Jesus not this addiction!!!
I think Jesus had something very important to say on the subject of what
we put into our bodies, and His message remains, that these things are NOT what defile (cause you to be unclean in His sight). Tobacco use is not a SIN, it can, as in your case, become an addiction, as become many other substances that can be swallowed/chewed or inhaled. (anti-depressant anyone?) We as human beings, make use of a wide variety of crutches to help us cope with daily life, (all the coffee addicts can nod their heads now) :secret: and some of these can be very bad for our health. As a child of God, these things should be dealt with as such, not be something your standing with God is determined by.
You are not condemned by Christ, SlaveToChrist, so let go of the fear, and the struggling, and the self-condemnation that does not come from Christ, and give this problem to Him, to help you as He surely will, as He helps all who come to Him with our very human failures to be perfect. Praise God!
2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made
perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Mar 7:18-23 And he
[JESUS] saith unto them,
Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, [it] cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
2Ti 1:7-9 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
