Then Jesus uttered another loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. When the Roman officer who stood facing him saw how he had died, he exclaimed, "This man truly was the Son of God!" Mark 15:37-29 NLT
Saint Patrick, whose feast we observe today, was celebrated because he returned to Ireland, where he had been enslaved as a young man, to preach the Gospel. Patrick risked his life to convert the people who had threatened his life, and he spent his remaining days advocating for the people of Ireland. In many ways, he imitated his Savior, who sacrificed His life in order to unite people with God.
If you have any doubts about the power of Jesus, His observers in the Gospels can help put some of them to rest. Even as He died, crying out to God with one final breath, the soldiers recognized that Jesus was surely divine. The torn temple veil offers yet another clue to His significance and connection to God.
You have been reunited with God through the death of Jesus. This is a gift that you can freely accept today, approaching God the Father in faith. It’s important enough that Saint Patrick risked his life to share it.
Prayer: Jesus, I trust that You have broken down every barrier between God and humanity.
