Of What Value Are You to God?

I'd like to pose a question that has challenged me personally:

What is stopping God from wiping His canvas clear and sweeping you into the history books?

It's a sobering question, but I think it's one worth meditating on. It leads us into the kind of self-examination that Scripture encourages:

1 Cor 11:31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.

God calls us to repent, to forgive, to love, to be merciful, to be patient, to be faithful, and to deny ourselves and follow Christ, even to the point of death if necessary (Matthew 16:24, Revelations 2:10).

Are these qualities truly evident in our lives? Or do we merely admire them from a distance?

Imagine, for a moment, that God decided to wipe the canvas clean and remove the entire human race. Would there be anything about your life that reflects His own heart so clearly that He would preserve you?

Of course, we know that every human being has value. We are all uniquely created in the image of God, and He demonstrated His love by sending His Son to die for the world. But beyond being His creation, what kind of person are you becoming? If our earthly life ended today, would our character reflect the heart of Christ?

I struggle to imagine a good God discarding someone who genuinely "abhors what is evil and clings to what is good" (Romans 12:9). A heart that truly loves what God loves and hates what God hates is precious to Him.

We can be thankful that God is good and His mercy endures forever Psalm 136:1. Thankful that God is righteous in all His ways Psalm 145:17. I would not be after God's heart if He were evil. This is an important fact for us all to understand. If you teach or believe that God has an evil side to Him, you do not know Him. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

So I ask again:

What is stopping God from wiping His canvas clear and sweeping you into the history books?

Ask God in sincere prayer. His answer is unique/personal for each of us.

I became a believer a couple years after a debilitating chronic illness. I'm truly grateful because my dedication to work never would have allowed me to focus on Him. Literally God put me on my back so that I would look up at Him. My wife (now caregiver) was also saved a number of years later by an act of God.

At one point I asked God what's the purpose? Take me home or heal me! The next day it was put on my heart to print a few specific verses and bring them to a nearby acquaintance. My wife stayed in the car and I stood at their door and explained and handed over the verses (can't stand for very long). It turns out he was very sick and his wife and him were praying for healing.

About a year later I get a call from him and he is very confused to reach me as he was calling a close friend he calls regularly. The numbers are not similar so not a typo. He says he'll dial more carefully and seconds later he calls me again. "God really wants me to talk to you", he said. This time he tells me about his really tough childhood and hints at some terrible thing he has done. My wife gets visions and she knows he started rumors about her. No apology from him which my wife hoped for.

In the past year we bumped into his widow. She said he always kept and cherished those verses.

I don't know what God's purpose was. I trust in His schedule and that He keeps me in His back pocket to use in small ways when the time is right. 2COR 12:9 comforts me.
