I am currently reading the OT.
How do people learn from the OT? For example some places in the OT it says that people disobeyed God, and that person was killed because of it. How are we supposed to interpret that into our lives today? How are we to interpret things like the the different commands in the OT in light of the present time?
Any comments of this would be awesome!
Thank you

Jun, the OT can be confusing but it's has great bearing on the NT. There are many, many prophecies in the OT that are fulfilled in the NT. Jesus references it often so it is definitely something we should be familiar with. I think to best answer how to interpret it into our lives today, look at the ways that Jesus references it. That should help some.

I'm only offering a superficial answer. There are many here (Yeshua for example) who can give you more detailed understanding.

Good question & welcome to the site!!

Dunno if i'm right or not here but the OT outlines death as the punishment for disobeying God. The NT tells us of Gods salvation plan for use and how on the cross Jesus died in out place taking the punishment for our sin. So to interpret the OT in our lifes the punisment for disobeying God is still death but inthe light of the NT if we have faith iin Gods salvation plan for us then that punishment(death) is fulfilled by Christ.

God is Just
Deut 32:4
4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he.

The punishment for our sin is death
Romans 6:23
23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus was offered as a sacrifice of attonement to pay the penatly for sins
Romans 3
21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Hopefully this will be of help
