But I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God. Psalm 31:14 AMPC

How many ways can you describe the term “take heart”? You’ll find a year’s worth of examples in this book. Here are a few descriptions to consider—possessing strength, holding hope, and owning courage.

Taking heart will always be more than acting brave for a moment. You can do that on your own when the need arises. No, taking heart sees that God alone gives real courage, hope, and strength. Taking heart proves you’re not along in this journey that can sometimes feel like a game of survival. Taking heart recognizes a companion that never leaves and never pretends He doesn’t know you. Taking heart will change the elevation of your view.

David is credited as the writer of Psalm 31. He wrote the words at a time when he was fleeing King Saul. If David were to believe what he was told, the king was trying to kill him. But David trusted in the God who inspired him toward courage. David declared that his confidence came from God (not from David’s personal storehouse of strength). This decision can be found in the many praise psalms you read in the Bible.

Prayer: God, I don’t want to be convinced that You intentionally wait for me to make a mess of things before You help me. Sometimes I just need to be wise enough to ask You for help.
