But Moses gave no allotment of land to the tribe of Levi, for the LORD, the God of Israel, had promised that he himself would be their allotment. Joshua 13:33 NLT

The apostle Peter wrote, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9 NIV).

Ever thought of yourself as a priest? God does.

God gave property as an inheritance to all of Jacob’s descendants, except Levi’s sons. To them He gave Himself (Joshua 13:33). There may have been times when the Levites wished they could have been other than a family of priests, but in their hearts they knew they had inherited more than the rest. So did you.

The priest brought the sacrifices to God—you bring yourself (Romans 12:1).

The priest entered the presence of God through the “narrow door” once a year—you can every day (Luke 13:24).

The priest led God’s people in proclaiming His “mighty acts” (Psalm 71:16), so do you.

Like the Levitical priesthood, you traded land for the Lord. When all the people around you inherit temporal things, you inherit an eternal relationship with the One who made you. What better inheritance could you ask for?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the honors and privileges that come with having You as my inheritance!
