Who [is] like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth [himself] to behold [the things that are] in heaven, and in the earth! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, [and] lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; That he may set [him] with princes, [even] with the princes of his people. Psalm 113:5-8 KJV
It’s inevitable—sometimes you’ll feel poor and needy. Maybe financially, or perhaps emotionally, physically, relationally, or spiritually. Life in this world has a way of humbling us, of occasionally showing how utterly helpless we are.
Isn’t it good to know that God is our polar opposite?
While we’re choking in the dust of despair, He’s watching from His throne on high. While we wipe the ash of frustration and weariness from our faces, God stoops down for a closer look at our pain. But He doesn’t stop there.
Not only does God observe our struggles, He steps in to help. Notice the verbs in today’s scripture reading: God “raises” and “lifts” us. Then He “seats” us with the princes of His people.
When we can’t do anything, God can do everything. When we can barely raise our leads, He can raise us—every part of us, every one of us—to glory: Our polar opposite is ready and eager to turn our defeats into His victories. So “let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore” (Psalm 113:2).
Prayer: Lord, please raise me up and seat me with Your princes.
