If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, he has already set you free. It isn't that we are not free, but that we are still listening to the lies of Satan when we give in to fear of what humans might do to us, or when we put ourselves down, or when we listen to the voices from our pasts. God has given us his armor to put on daily with which to fight off Satan's evil schemes against us, which include his lies, so I would counsel you to daily use this spiritual armor (Eph. 6:10-20) to overcome your fears. When you feel fear, combat it with faith and with truth and with the Word of God. Will people reject you if you are following Jesus Christ in obedience? Yes! As followers of Jesus we have to be willing to accept that reality in order to be his servants and witnesses. We have to choose to obey him rather than fear man. And, then we have to go against those fears by following Jesus, and by trusting in him. The only way we can have holy boldness is via full surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord (owner-master) of our lives, being fully convinced that following him and doing what he says is worth all the rejection we will face as a result. We have to care more about others than we do about protecting ourselves from hurt, and be willing to lay our lives down to see others be saved from sin and to walk in freedom.
I use to try to fight off Satan's attacks against me like I tried resisting the abuse from my father, with my arms crossed over my face, but knowing I was still going to get hit. That didn't work. I used to think, too, that Satan had power over me still, and that there was a question as to who was going to win this battle, and truly in the recesses of my mind I was convinced that God could do nothing to change my circumstances. I was wrong! I learned that God is all powerful and completely sovereign over all he has made, and that he is in control over all things, so we never have to fear what may come our way, for God has it under his control, and he has a reason for everything he allows. So, I had to learn to trust in his sovereignty over my life. Also, I had that Jesus already won this battle against Satan, so there is not a question as to who is going to win. I just had to learn to live like I truly believed that, and instead of crossing my arms against my face, I had to get out the sword of the Spirit and be bold in proclaiming what I knew to be the truth, and in the face of Satan's lies. We shrink back when we are convinced that either God can't handle our situations or that the enemy has the power to defeat us. Those are both lies! So, believe God, resist Satan, combat his lies with the truth, and follow after the truth. Be willing to die for the sake of the name of Jesus and for the sake of his gospel, and be willing to be rejected for your faith.
Praying for you to put off Satan's lies, and to believe God's truths, and to make God's truths the reality in your life in place of Satan's lies.
