So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Acts 14:23
Before their first missionary journey, Barnabas and Saul and other gifted men were worshipping God, praying, and fasting. Now, near the end of that missionary journey, Paul and Barnabas are doing the same with the men they appointed as elders in each city.
What a great way for these converts to step into servant-leader roles within each city church. It's one thing to give your life to Jesus Christ. It's quite another to have dedicated, godly men join you in committing your relationship with the Lord. This causes you to sink your roots down deeper than ever.
True, not all Christian men will be appointed as leaders within the local church. Just the same, all should aspire to live up to the qualifications of such leaders. These qualifications are spelled out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
The bottom line: Don't worry about whether you'll ever be appointed as a leader. Live as one just the same!
Prayer: Lord, yes, I aspire to be a servant-leader within my family, friends, and local church. More than ever, I trust in You!
