We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 NKJV
Imagine being on the apostle Paul’s prayer list—and not only his, but those of other early church leaders like Silas and Timothy.
Today’s scripture shows Paul and Company praying specifically for the believers of first-century Thessalonica. Perhaps they even looked forward from that time and place, praying for yet unborn people to be blessed by the Thessalonians’ faith. Looking backward from the early 1900s, Scottish evangelist Oswald Chambers thought his ministry might be “the answer to someone’s prayer, prayed perhaps centuries ago.”
One great figure of Christian history definitely prayed for you—and those prayers were undoubtedly heard by God the Father. In John 17, Jesus Himself looked ahead to your life, praying for your spiritual well-being as a beneficiary of His disciples’ work” “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one--as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” (v21).
Be encouraged: you’ve been prayed over by the best. And according to Romans 8:34, He’s still interceding today.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I appreciate Your prayers—I need them!
