Thus the Lord GOD showed me: Behold, the Lord GOD called for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the territory. Then I said: "O Lord GOD, cease, I pray! Oh, that Jacob may stand, For he [is] small!" [So] the LORD relented concerning this. "This also shall not be," said the Lord GOD. Amos 7:4-6 NKJV
Just imagine what was going through Amos’s mind when God revealed to him that He was about to judge the nation of Israel for its rebellion—in fact, this judgment had already begun. Amos loved his nation and its people, and his heart must have been breaking. So, in addition to everything else God had given him to do, Amos got on his knees and pleaded on behalf of Israel. In response to Amos’s prayers, “the Lord relented.”
This is a remarkable example of prayer changing situations. When Amos pleaded with God, He showed mercy to the land of Israel.
Do you know of a situation that needs to be changed? You never know how God will respond if you spend some time praying over that matter. So go to God and offer Him specific prayers about your situation. Then just wait for Him to respond!
Prayer: Righteous God thank You that You hear my prayers and that You love showing mercy to me and those I love in answer to those prayers. Make me a man of prayer so that I may make a difference in the world.
