I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:22-26 ESV

The writer of Psalm 73 recognized his sin before God, and that helped him to better appreciate the Lord’s mercy and kindness. He saw that God had remained with him, forgiving his sins and restoring him. God’s presence wasn’t diminished by his failures and receiving that kind of mercy increased his dependence on God and his gratitude.

No matter how far you have fallen, or how hopeless you feel, or how distant from God you may feel, today’s psalm reminds you that God’s goal and desire for you is restoration. Even when you feel fearful and discouraged, God will provide the encouragement and stability you need-if you will only place your trust in His never-ending presence and unfailing mercy. Begin today by assessing the state of your heart before God, who can restore you no matter how brutish or ignorant you have been.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy and forgiveness. May I lean on You throughout today and every day to support me.
