On more than one occasion, Jesus told His disciples that He would suffer and die at the hands of the Jewish and Roman authorities but also that God would raise Him from the dead—all according to Old Testament prophecy.
After all Jesus had said to the Eleven, you might think that they waited expectantly to see their risen Lord’s appearance. Somehow, though, the truths Jesus shared hadn’t sunk in. When the resurrected Jesus appeared to them, Their response was one of fear, not joy.
Jesus knew what the disciples needed, so He supernaturally “opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45).
All men of God need the same thing the disciples needed: understanding of the scriptures. The good news is that God has promised understanding of spiritual things through the Holy Spirit to those who ask for it. So as you open your Bible today, and every day, ask God to open your mind and give you the understanding you need.
Prayer: Lord God, I want to know You and Your written Word better each day. As I read and study the scriptures, open my mind to its truths and how I should apply them to my own life.
