For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them. Psalm 44:3 NKJV
Psalm 44 was written by the sons of Korah. They were closely related to Moses and were singers. They were responsible for around 10 percent of the psalms. Their words in this psalm were reminders that no matter what difficulty they faced, if they would simply remember the goodness and love of God, they could trade in uncertainty for encouragement. The internal sea of fear would recede, anxiety would release its grip, and peace could make the heart God’s home.
When your inner turmoil over your difficulties is not tempered this way, you will find yourself walking on edge or in a state of internal chaos and out-of-control external impulses. It will leave you in a weakened state.
Most scholars believe there were at least three brothers who were involved in writing the psalms attributed to the sons of Korah. It seems possible that as they wrote together, they remembered together and were encouraged together. You might find that taking the time to share your struggles with like-minded Christians can help you recover your spiritual senses when circumstances threaten to take you where you don’t want to go.
Prayer: Father, I don’t want to be out of control, but I can’t always control myself or my actions. When I’m tempted to join Team Chaos, help me remember You.
