Now Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys at the command of the LORD. And these [are] their journeys according to their starting points: Numbers 33:2 NKJV

In today’s reading, you reviewed a long list of dozens of stops Israel made—from the moment they left Ramses to the moment they arrived at the Promised Land.

Why might God have command Moses to make such a list? God often instructed His people to build memorials to remember His faithfulness. Maybe His instructions to Moses here are for the same reason. He’d taken Israel out of bondage in Egypt and led them through the desert for forty years, delivering them to the Promised Land. Talk about a model of faithfulness! And since humans are prone to forget, maybe He wanted His faithfulness to be chronicled for all time.

When you tell the next generation about God’s faithfulness in your family, how detailed do you get? Do you know the testimonies of previous generations in your family? If not, why not start by preserving your own in written, video, or audio format? Then encourage your children to do the same as they pass their spiritual history on, always remembering to highlight God’s faithfulness.

Once you are done, maybe you could even start a similar class at church to help the families in your congregation do the same.

Prayer: Lord, may my family never forget Your faithfulness to us throughout the ages.
