I rejoice at Your word As one who finds great treasure. ... I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies, For all my ways [are] before You. Psalm 119:162, 168 NKJV

When we feel threatened, our natural reaction is to be afraid. Even if we think we’re up to the threat, doubt in our strength or wisdom pesters us. But that’s only if we find our value in what the world thinks of us. David’s joy came from his knowledge of God and God’s Word—for him, it was a true treasure, unassailable by any enemy, even his own doubts and fears.

Scripture is more than a source of information; its value comes from the one who spoke it. God’s guarantee is tamped all over His words—He will do what He says and accomplish all His goals. That’s value beyond anything the world offers.

Like David’s, our hope in God is tied to our obedience to His words and ways. Because He loved us, we love Him, and because we love Him, we’ll do what He says. That trust in Him not only binds us to Him in love; it shows the world that we are His, glorifying Him further. The more we treasure God’s Word, the easier it is to follow where He leads.

Prayer: God, Your Word lights my way and anchors my soul. Use it to show me something about You and Your ways today.
