The sabbath day is the day in which we find our rest. In the OT under the law given to Moses it was a literal day which may be seen by us today as a type or shadow of the real place and time of rest which is in Jesus when Jesus is also resting in us. In the OT it was often known as Zion referring to the natural children of Israel and something more. Are we not to be His resting place and is He not to be our resting place? Was that not His prayer?
"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." John 17:20-23
Jesus is ready for us to rest in Him, but are we already a set apart [sanctified] pure and clean vessel in which He is able to rest?
"...The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head." Matt 8:20
David prophesied about this here:
"Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob." Psalm 132:3-5
He then spoke of where the resting place was here:
"For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it." Psalm 132:13-14
So what and where is this Zion? Is it or can it be you and me?
