I personally believe that Santa Clause has become an idol to our children. He has been set up as an idol in our image ,something to take away from the birth of our Lord and Savior who gave us the ultimate gift, our SALVATION. I teach my children that santa clause is made up......... they still get presents in the spirit of giving, but they know that Christmas is about Christ. It is not about a magical man who flies around on reindeer and delivers his presents, because then they would be looking for the return of santa every year, not Jesus. I know many will disagree, but the way I see it, we cannot serve two masters and a lie is a lie even when you tell the lie to children! When my daughter came home from school the other day and said, "mommy santa can see every thing we do." I thought they are teaching my child blasphemy! Only God is omnipresent, knows all, sees all and is everywhere, but people are teaching our children that santa is like God....it makes me sick!
Some may think I am ridiculous for even putting this, but just chew on it for a momment. Take the name santa and unscramble the letters....who's name do you get?
Something else that bothers me what does a big old bunny delivering easter eggs have to do with the ressurection of Jesus Christ from the dead. I believe it is a tatic of the enemy to draw our attention away from Christ....all such stuff is.
All for Christ and all in love, Amber.

also another thought to think about.
If you teach your child about santa, when they reach the age that they figured you where lying to them(<<<<<<oops!!!! did i say lying)
what make you so sure they won't think you were lying about Jesus also.
So i feel it is best to tell them the truth about christmas and the true meaning

Well I am from Florence, KY, but my gramma comes from Booneville, right next to Natural Bridge.
Thanks for your reply I am glad to know other Christians feel the way I do. A lie is a lie and just because something is secular tradition, does not make it right.
We must be careful and when we feel that something is not right, I believe we should as Christian believers discuss it with each other.
1 John 5:19-21 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true-even in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
All for Christ and in His love, Amber. God bless you all!

I am guilty for telling my children, "you better be good or Santa won't come." My children get gifts from their dad and I on Christmas eve and from Santa Christmas day. They have also been taught that Christmas is a celebration of the birth if Jesus. They know what Christmas is really about and they also believe in Santa Claus. They don't worship Santa. What's the harm?

Christmas = CHRIST

Santa Claus = *still* was a real human being who gave gifts. However, the world gone crazy with commercialism of Santa Claus is a bit too much.

Let's keep Christmas Christ centered. Why not say "if your good, Jesus will give you gifts"? :) But again all who know and love Jesus know that the gift has already been given and no other greater than Salvation.

Yet, for children they love toys and what have you. You can work this by discipline. If they are good, they get gifts "ok'd" by GOD. What do you say?

Thank GOD I don't have to worry about these (yet). No children yet to fuss about these things lol.

Looking back I would have never told my daughters about santa. I told them about Jesus at a young age, but we didn't talk about Him enough. My ex-wife always said "If you don't believe in santa, you won't get a Christmas. " Her mother told her this. She never talked to them about Jesus that I knew of. It's a horrible thing when parents who are believers spend so much time telling their kids about santa, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy and neglect to tell them about the King of Kings.

Jesus came that we may have life . Our children will judge us by all our actions and words . Santa Clause is the least of our problems . Mike

When conclusions are drawn about the origin of Santa Claus, extreme statements should be avoided. The modern Santa Claus has been shaped by many factors and is a conglomeration of myths and legends.

Second, it is also absolutely inaccurate to claim that "Santa Claus is pagan" without any further explanation. We need to be clear what we mean by "pagan." If by "pagan" we mean "non-Christian" then the statement is accurate. (that definition opens a whole can of worms) But because he exists as nothing more than the figment of an active imagination, I prefer to say that "Santa Claus is a fairy tale" along the lines of the tooth fairy.

Ultimately it is impossible, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (or any other Christian celebration) without competition from other festivals and observances - no matter what date is picked. The days of the week are named after pagan Gods, shall we not then put a calander on our walls? ;)

Santa = Fantasy (Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, etc)

Jesus = True Story

Now I am a single guy so I haven't had a chance to put actions where my mouth is yet,

I wonder about telling them about St, Nick as in the fellow the myth is all based on. He was a bishop in Europe somewhere who used to give poor families money so their daughters could afford to get married. Seems like a decent sought of role model and there are no red suits in sight.

Theophilus, I do love the Garfield Clause (claws) lol ;)

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat (ceremonial articles allowed or forbiden by the Jewish law) and drink;
but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Rom 14:18 For he that in these things [righteousness, and peace, and joy] serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

Rom 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Rom 14:20 For meat (ceremonial articles allowed or forbiden by the Jewish law) destroy not the work of God.

Santa or no santa has nothing to do with the kindgom of God.

Col 2:20 Since you* died with Christ from the rudimentary elements [or, basic teachings] of the world, why as living in the world are you* submitting to regulations?
Col 2:21 "You* yourselves should not handle nor should you* taste nor should you* touch,"
Col 2:22 which things are all for corruption with the using, according to the commandments and teachings of people, [cp. Isaiah 29:13]
Col 2:23 which are indeed having a reputation of wisdom in self-imposed religion and false humility and severe discipline [or, non-indulgence] of the body, but which are not of any value against indulgence of the flesh.

Santa, or no santa, has no value against unrighteousness.

[ Edited to add, santa or no santa is for certain a debate (not unlike other debates of its kind) satan gleefully uses to distract us from the work of the Kingdom of God...
as Mike so simply stated "Santa Clause is the least of our problems"
Amen!]

You guys made great posts. Not ot purposely stop people from posting but to avoid further "debate" I am locking this thread. Enough proof and statements made, points clarified using Scripture and of course logical sense.

God bless you. Praise JESUS and teach Truth only.
